Research results just published by digital marketing agency Visibility IQ would appear to confirm what the savvy marketeer already knows: social video is an important driver for engagement and purchase behaviour amongst online consumers. !(/attachments/small/0/youtube.jpg "align-right") The research, conducted by Entertainment Media Research Ltd, was based upon interviews with more than 2,600 consumers between the ages of 15 and 64. Although the research was conducted within the UK, the results are likely to be mirrored in any markets where broadband provision is good and Internet access widespread. The key findings of the research are as follows: 78% of UK adults …

DaniWeb recently attended the ANA Digital and Social Media Conference in New York City which brought into focus just how much social media has become a powerful marketing technique. With speakers from companies including RadioShack, Coca-Cola and FedEx, a powerful message was broadcast: social media used to be a thermometer, today it’s a thermostat! The various speakers got that message across loud and clear. FedEx, for example, proved how social media not only drives sales, but drives how people research companies; especially those seeking employment. The numbers were staggering, but we already have a good idea what they are. After …

I have an independent film website that I am continuously improving to make the experience for the users better. So initially starting this websites, I thought that having great content would bring in a lot of organic traffic. After a few months, that's not the case. I get a great amount of traffic through paid campaigns, but would like to find new ways of driving organic and returning traffic. What are your suggestions? The link is in my footer (Directors Live).

I read somewhere that social media is advertising - I dont think it is but I do think that social media is non-blatant advertising because it allows you to still advertise yourself or your product and social media can help you with your branding.

Hi How would you brand yourself? What would you do online to brand yourself and help your business increase sales? Twitter have allowed many to brand themselves but is this long lasting or just last for one tweet.

It's almost reassuring to see a large company make basic mistakes like this - UK toy store Hamley's (one of our best-known retailers, a tourist destination in its own right so I'm told although personally I find it looks a little dated) forgot to renew its domain for a few days. Inevitably it was infested with ads for a while. I do wonder what these companies think they're doing. It must be almost a decade since the satire site B3ta registered introducingmonday.co.uk - a consultancy was rebranding as Monday, put a lot of serious corporate stuff on introducingmonday.com but forgot …

Ah, Microsoft, that crazy company from Redmond, WA is at again. This time they want to rename the Netbook unilaterally to the...drum roll please..."low cost small notebook PC." As first reported in the Digitimes last week, Microsoft decided on their own that the name was not appropriate and they were renaming it. I'm fairly sure they didn't consult with the rest of the industry about this change, but hey they're Microsoft right? They can do whatever they please. Of course, it doesn't mean the rest of the world has to go along. Same Old Song and Dance I doubt very …

Nothing's wrong as far as I can see We make it harder than it has to be and I can't tell you why ~Eagles, I Can’t Tell You Why. Apple and Adobe have both gotten some press lately for going to the trademark police after a couple of small business people had the audacity to publicize their products by including corporate trademarks in their business name. First there was the case of Apple going after The iPod Mechanic as reported by my colleague Davey Winder (aka Happy Geek) in his Inside Edge blog. Now comes news from ReadWriteWeb that …

At simultaneous launch events held in both London and New York today, Bebo announced its Open Media vision for social media and entertainment to provide media companies totally free access to its community of some 40 million users. In return, those 40 million members of the social networking community who, one assumes, are mainly there to find and make friends (the clue is in the social networking name after all) get free access to what Bebo refers to as 'thousands of hours of premium entertainment content from some of the world's best known media brands' and what the rest of …
