Hello Daniweb Community, I thinking about upgrading from my laptop to a desktop the main concern is either if I should buy one of build one. So as the title says this is mainly if I was going to build one. To start off, my main concern about building one is compatibility. I'm not sure on if I buy a motherboard that I can buy whatever CPU, Graphics Card, etc... I'm not sure if there is like a guide I need to go off and even then does it all come down to if it's compatible with the motherboard? I …

I am getting a very mysterious bug when I run my java website in Browser Mode: IE9 Compatibility View - the sessions stop working and I have no idea why. I don't think there is a tag or any code that I can include in my website that can force the client browser not to run in Compatibility View. I am using this tag to force the browser to pick the latest Document Mode though: <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge"> I am using this code for setting the session in my LoginController.java: import javax.servlet.http.*; HttpSession session = request.getSession(true); session.setAttribute("userObj", curr_user); and this …

Hi. I have an application in C#. When installing the msi, the user is requested to input some values and these are entered in registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MyFolder. When running the application, the value is read from the registry location and the application uses these values for processing. This works fine on Windows XP. Now I have recently moved to Windows 7 64 bits. When installing the application on Win 7, the registry entries are created at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MyFolder. The problem I am having is that I have hard coded my application to read values from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MyFolder. How do I change this …

Hi you all. I am new to the world of PC building and this would be the first PC I have ever built. I used a website called pcpartpicker.com and came up with the following build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/NV30. I thought it would be well suited to my needs, and the website concluded that all the parts were compatible. I would just like to double check that with you guys. If there is an incompatibility, please tell me what it is and what a good replacement would be. If there are any superflous parts, please also notify me about what they are …

Hi, Our site (www.iloho.com) works fine on FF, Chrome and Safari but on IE it seems to freeze on the home page after signing in. We've been trying to resolve this for a week and sadly there's no meaningful progress. Is anyone able to point out which areas we should look into? Cheers Jimmy

Please I am currently working on a web application project that works on both the desktop and mobile devices also. The web application is to be for all and sundry and therefore I need it to work on all forms of mobile devices (old and new). The web application uses the SQL server database so I thought I could use ASP.NET but then I realised that the Mobile SDK is now obsolete. I really need help with the proper platform to use and how to go about it. Thanks a bunch in advance!

Hi all, I have done an asp.net project using VS 2010. I have used jquery, $.ajax calls, updatepanels and pagemethods. I have included the ajaxcontroltoolkit.dll in the bin. What compatibility probles that are likely to occur. I have tested the project in IE8 and firefox 8. It works fine. Since, It is a admin side project it is enough, if it runs good in IE8. But, are there any other ajax related and operating system related issues of which i should inform the client who will be using this project Please some one guide me. Thanks in advance.

I am in the process of building a new computer to replace my 7 year old Compaq. I've never actually built a computer before so I wanna make sure that my parts are compatible. According to a friend of mine the processor I've picked (with due research) is a newer processor so I don't know if anything special needs to be done. According to newegg.com the motherboard that supports this processor supports several different types of RAM such as 1800, 1333, 1600, etc. My big question is (and if its been answered elsewhere and I missed it I apologize) the …

Hi all, I am working on a small project using Dreamweaver. I have a marquee with many images. Everything works fine in Dreamweaver Live View ( images keep coming out from the right end and disappear into the left end). In IE8 (which supposedly fully support marquee, right?) , once the first image hits the left end, all the images disappear and restart from the rigth end. I also have a button that changes direction of the marquee. In Dreamweaver view, when I hit the "right" direction button, the last image comes out from the left(then the second last, third …

I have 2 very similar pages. The first loads fine in IE9, the second does not. I get no error message on screen or in developer tools. Page just does not load: good: http://www.mfwbooks.com/products/M50/40/10/0/1 bad: http://www.mfwbooks.com/products/M50/40/15/0/1 Any ideas? If I turn on compatibility view for the site, the second page does load.

I have been experiencing a problem with a menu tree created in JavaScript. It has been in use for years with previous versions of IE with no problems but when I tried to put it into a new web page and loaded it on IE8 the appearance changed dramatically. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it? Is there an identifier for IE8 I need to use to get the menu to function properly? It's a perfectly good expanding menu tree that looks very nice and I would hate to have to start over from scratch.

Hi there, I've been searching all over the internet for a solution to this problem but can't seem to find anything that solves it. I got a masterform with the following code:
<%@ Master Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="FolderMasterForm2.master.cs" Inherits="FolderMasterForm2" %> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head id="Head" runat="server"> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> ... ... ...
and all the pages who use the masterform are supposed to be displayed in IE7-mode, but for some reason the internet browser ignores the IE7 emulation and displays it as IE8 as default. (I can go to the developer's menu and change it to IE7 and ti works, …

Hi experts! I have the following code which I use for dynamically creating objects in one module (executable or shared object (.so or .dll)) and be able to delete it from any other module while enforcing the call to the delete operator in the original module where the object was created (such that the same Heap is used for sure). This is essential for being able to easily use the shared_ptr across the modules while not having to care about in what module the object ends up being deleted by the depletion of the shared_ptr reference count. However, I am …

I have interesting question. Why this code is legal in C, but not legal in C++ ? (tested with GCC 4.2 compilers)
void Function() {} int main () { Function(1); return 0; }
We can simulate same C++ compiler error in C compiler by changing function definition to [ICODE]void Function(void) {}[/ICODE] So seems that if function is declared without parameters- C++ automatically substitutes VOID as parameter in function declaration, and C - does not. The only question here is - Does that difference between C & C++ is documented / official ? Because I've not seen that difference …

I have a program which connects to a remote MySQL Server. When i try running the program on other PCs (ones with nothing more than the .NET Framework) I tried using ODBC, which would run the program, but not be able to connect to the database because of the lack of the Driver. I just switched to using the MySQL Connector/NET, but that had an error on startup (I think it was b/c it couldn't find a file) I hear that Oledb has good compatibility, but I believe it will only work on a local database. Is there a way …

As mentioned is this thread I intend to create a collection of functions that use only core functions (as the String functions) to maximal compatibility. (See the website - anyone is invited to participate.) The first task will be to parse a string (containing the XML data), break it down and store it in an array. (Why an array?) My first idea is to use nested strtok (or maybe explode) functions to break down the XML data into the entities. Anyone hear with a better idea?
