There is only one RAID configuration in which a single disk failure causes all data loss... striping without parity or mirroring (RAID 0). It may be better to talk about the purpose for the RAID set. Second connect disk to another ide/sata (you don't say what it is) port Third unplug all other hardware, including internal drives, in case psu is being overloaded. Then add the other add-on cards, drives, etc and see if it all works. It sounds like you'll have to replace the PSU anyway, so this would probably be a good way to do it.
