RAM is transient and is just the memory the apps you currently have open at the time are using. The amount of RAM you use goes down when you close out of apps or restart your phone. If there is no noise's at all, then the HDD isn't getting power to it, which if you've tried different molex plugs, its going to be the HDD controller board that has died most likely.
