Hello, I currently have a RedHat Linux version 6.4 running on a physical server (HP). However, recently it has started to show a failing disk problem, with some failures at software level as well like the terminal not opening properly, and while waiting for a new replacement disk to be made available, I would like to be able to backup a whole image of the server, and eventually run it on VirtualBox or VMWare should the disk fail completely. Any tool (free preferably) or manual steps which can be useful in my case? Thanks.

I just purchased an 240 GB SSD for my older Toshiba Satellite. I would rather not go through trying to save the files from the HDD and install the Linux Mint Debian Edition and then move all the files back, I would like to just be able to clone the HDD to the SSD. Can anyone give me any direction on that? Thanks. ALso, I'd like to maybe get some new memory for the laptop and if possible maybe a CPU as well but I know that's less likely. Here's my laptop -> https://www.cnet.com/products/toshiba-satellite-l355d/specs/ After looking over the specs it …

Installing Debian 8 in an SSD RAID1 envorionment fails at grub install, yet the same environment, same hardware using HDD's completes successfully. How can this be? ECS H110-C3D MB Startech Marvell 88SE92XX PCIe controller Have tried both Sandisk and ADATA SSD's, both fail at GRUB install. Using WD traditional (spindal) HDD's works successful.

Is it possible to run to run photorec such a way not to recover all photos on a drive just those with specific EXIF data? If photorec cannot solve this request itself, is it possible to do this with a script which can filter the results online?

Hello, I have a problem with a 500GB SATA HDD, it is a western digital. I have the following problem: This HDD has high writing and reading speeds. Smart Status is ok. But the problem is formatting, it takes ages. Installing windows takes ages too. But what is weird is that if I copy 4 GB to it, it copies with 45 MB/Ps and the files can be read. What do you think is wrong? Can you help me? Best wishes, Jeannot Thewissen

Hi I meet a problem I bought a **WD HDD** (WD2500AAKX) with **SATA3** connection but my **motherboard chipset** only supports **SATA1**. The question is: how to set **jumpers** and to slow down speed at 1.5 Gbps? On the HDD is saying that Jumper on Pin 5-6 slow down to 3 Gbps. When i connect the HDD, the BIOS doesn't see it. And all over the internet it saying that SATA3 is **compatible** with SATA1 chipset **thanks in advance** :)

I have tried to clone a HDD to a new one and neither Ghost or Acronis will finish the job. Ghost gets to 98% and just stays there for hours. Acronis gets to 75% and says error on sector .... The HDD that I am cloning is a 1.5GB going to a 2GB WD Black. All the info on the older HDD is there and works fine but there must be some type of error that won't let me finish. I have done a check disk already too. Anyone ever experienced this? What can I do?

Ok, here's the history of the problem. I have 80GB Hard drive "Samsung sp0411c" and I am using it since two years with my old desktop system with this S.M.A.R.T error at the startup (BIOS). **TWO YEARS BACK** I think there are some bad sectors involved at the last part of the HDD space. There were 4 partitions initially i.e. (C, D, E, & F). The problem started with partition F with following issues; ? Always took so long copying files into F ? System got stuck up when some file(s), folder(s) from F drive were opened and then automatic …

Got another one for you guys:) Sorry if this seems like a silly/simple question to ask but I have a SATA Hard Drive plugged in to my windows 7 Pro and I'm unable to view it in "My Computer" as a drive. when I look on Disk Management it shows it as "Disk 2" and "Unallocated" I don't seem to have the option to set a drive letter to it. To connect the hard disk to my computer I'm using a [Wnstars Communicator C2 Docking Station](http://www.maplin.co.uk/sata-and-ide-hdd-docking-station-with-hub-and-cardreader-388318) Thanks again in advance=D Blake

Hello everyone. Hopefully somebody can help me. I have an old 250 GB external HDD which I used to use for data storage. It's a fairly old model (bought it in 2005) and the USB port on the caddy seems to be broken. At first, I could have the HDD connrcted if the USB cable was in a specific position but that no longer works. I was wondering if someone could tell me if this particular external HDD is, like most, an internal drive in a shell or an actual drive. Unfortunately, I don't have the model number but it's …

hello everyone, I own one laptop repair shop in Brugnera and recently I got many dead hard drives from Italy, especially Seagate and Western Digital, none of them are detected in the PC. I searched long and find in my city one company who is providing those stuff. The company is one reseller of SalvationDATA technology and they suggested to buy three tools: HD HPE PRO, HD doctor suite …

HELLO DaniWeb, it's been a couple years, sorry for that. Anyways,so here's the story.I was attempting to backup a client's SATA HD by hooking it up to my PC, which uses an IDE HD for the master, and after hooking it up it took an usually long time to boot, after several minutes it gave me an error in which it prompted me to run the diagnostic program that comes with Windows 7 Ultimate. I ran the program and all seemed fine after it did its repair thing, I could see my client's files and what not but regrettably I …

This isn't the first time I've had this problem and the last time I had it, I didn't note down how I fixed it. I just spent the last hour or so looking for solutions to this online and to my surprise, nowhere actually has an answer. My external hard drive would randomly disconnect for just under a second then reconnect. When searching online, I found someone suggesting that the USB port doesn't have enough power to it to power the hard drive and suggested unplugging all non-essential USB devices. I didn't think it would solve it but I tried …
