Hello everyone, I would like to use HP's system recovery (F11 on boot menu, not the windows application) to revert my laptop to its factory state. The thing is that i have created a disk partition to keep my data which wasn't present by default. Will the recovery delete my partition or will it simply re-install windows on system (C:\) partition? (Laptop model is HP compaq 6730s) Thanks in advance!

So, I was trying to do two things at once and it went badly: I was just setting up a new HDD with Window7 on it, next to an old HDD with windows xp on it. I decided to shrink the XP drive and split it into tooto give both OS access to a common empty drive rather than have them accessing each others main partition. During the shrink process I disabled the Virtual disk manager which caused: "virtual disk manager the service cannot be started". Now I have a 500Gb drive of which only 120 Gb is accessible. Disk …

I have an iOmega Home storage 1Tb model 31803000, which contains some info I would like to recover.(I know... a backup, but thats is probably not complete..) Had the NAS working on XP using a router (Sitecom 300N), but it stopped working normally, went visible/invisilbe and when visible stopped during data transfer. A friendly neighbour helped me to dismantle the disk. Now I have the disk directly connected to a Ubuntu system. Ubuntu recognise the system, but reports "invalid partition structure", so now I hope to recover the files although the partition is a little bit problematic. Looking and browsing …

Recently while watching a show online in bed my laptop decided that it had enough of this world and threw itself off the nightstand. Upon trying to turn the laptop back on after a few minutes I get the error of either some wires came unblocked or faulty hardware and it can't boot up. My thought is that I've killed my hard drive and lost everything I had on it. However to test this theory I removed the hard drive and stuck it in my external hot swap and the drive shows up with my main partition as well as …

Attached image show that I can shrink volume C more tham 25MB while it has128GB free space. I bought a used laptop and the former owner partitioned the hardrive (no big deal) but added a second operating system on the other partition. I have windows 7 on the primary partiton but don't know how to uninstall an operating system and don't know if there is a risk of losing the files on the second partition. Is there a way for me to undo the partition itself? I probly won't anyway but I heard laptops don't function as well with partitions and might change my mind. Would I have to back-up my files externally if I did? -Thnx

Hello everyone, I have a 300gb Sata hard drive that I partitioned into 3 partitions: (C:(System, OS) 60gb) - (D:(Music and Videos) 100gb) - (E: (My Studio) 140gb) Something happened and D: & E: disappeared. I bought a program called "Mini-tool Power data recovery" and I was successful in recovering all of my lost files. Now I want to repartition the hard drive back and just use it as one Partition because I bought two more hard drives to do what I had done with the hard drive in question. When I click on "my computer" it shows my C: …

Hi everyone. I'd like to ak for your help with a messed up partition (probably corrupted table as I understand it). I don't have much experience when it comes to this. Here's my problem: I have a probably corrupted disk and I wanted to create a partition avoiding the bad sectors. I had no idea which app would be suitable so I used a partition magic 8 (it came to my mind first as I used it in the past). I stared it up and it showed some message about fixing my partitions automatically and I was in a hurry …

Hi all, I have a problem with a computer, it has a pirated version of windows installed but apparently the D: drive is intact with Compaq's recovery stuff. But I have tried many things already and nothing gets me to the recovery partition as I want to restore it and get rid of the pirated windows that works poorly. How that pirate copy got there? Long story and the person responsible is gone with the wind. I have tried the following things trying to get to it: -I have tried tapping about every effin' F AND the "Esc" key on …

Hi! I've searched Google for hours, but I can't find the answer anywhere. I have an 8GB flash drive, and I want to install Chromium OS on it. However, I would only need about 4GB of storage for Chromium OS. Allocating the other 4GB of space for Chromium OS seems like a waste to me. I wanted to know if it was possible for me to partition the flash drive into two 4GB partitions, with one partition being the bootable Chromium OS and the other being a normal FAT32 file system. If this is possible, can any of you kindly …

Hi, I am about to set up a dual boot configuration on my machine. I plan to install osx on my pc, with windows 7 being the most used partition on the machine. I would like for windows to be out the outside of the hard disk so I may have faster read/write times, but that is more of a secondary concern to the data being continuous. If I have fragmentation on my hard drive When I resize my partitions does the partition manager automatically create the data in a contiguous format, or is the data from both partitions spread …

Hey guys, help me out! It's a long read, but please have patience, I really need you! I am running Windows 7 on a 500 GB SATA HDD. I have 4 partitions, and had wanted to expand the size of my 4th partition. So I burnt a GParted disk (0.6.2) and then booted into it, resized the partition (moved 30 GB off from D:, added it to E:, then moved it to F:, which is the partition I wanted to expand) and when I started the process, in a few minutes, it threw some Read/Write error and quit. So when …

Now i have decided to format it but it doesnt let me because it is write protected. It doesnt have a slide button to turn off write protection, and ive tried multiple low level formatters in vain. I also tried to delete partition, and to change the regustry value to 0, but that doesn't seem to work either! The USB is 1GB and it isnt a brand name USB as far …
