I am studying viruses and trying to figure out how the FLEX module works for C++. I have taken classes before on regular languages, context free, etc. Is FLEX dealing with regular languages or regular expressions, and also what is the difference exactly? Could you give an example of how a flex program works and or point me to a link that does? How it integrates with C++? I am trying to use it to scan for particular code in viruses as a parser.

So I am taking a class in Viruses and Defense against Viruses. As such there entails much x86 programming. I do know how to program in x86 and the calling conventions and so forth. But that is only because I learned it from my instructor. However, I am not sure how the stack actually works. Only that you need to preserve the eax, and the pointers. And then you need to push and pop, etc. So I was wondering if I could get a thorough enough explanation that is easier to understand. From what I know so far besides the …

Hi, My computer has received a virus, which upon booting up, it comes up with boot error and goes into a fake 'safe mode'. I am unable to access anything from that screen accept a fake virus scanner that requires purchasing before use. I have however found an unsafe way to access the desktop by plugging in my iPod and going onto it through a scanner wizard box that pops up after it is plugged in. I know this is dangerous as it poses a threat to my iPod but it is the only way I am able to accessy …

Hello all, 2 days ago my computer was infected by something called Windows Safe Mode. it tells me my ram usage is maxed and one of my hard drives has failed. Also, after 15 minutes or so I will get 1 or 2 error messages and clicking anything on them causes my computer to shut down and restart. This seems to be fairly new as I haven't seen many reports about it. System restore doesn't give me any restore points and Firefox gets redirected to a page asking for me to purchase some software. I've read another thread here and …

I know you can't believe everything you read, especially if it's classified as an Advertisement. While surfing the Web two days ago, I found an advertisement stating, "Death to the PC" I believe I was at a MSN Website. It also stated two major companies behind it that I don't want to put down. My explanation is below. Is this a joke? Is this the typical scare tactic that spammers use in order to trick you into clicking on their advertisement? Maybe even something worse by clicking on it such as those Nasties and Viruses? No, I didn't click on …

For the life of me, I can't find the service or program that keeps installing itself after deletion from Windows XP (Pro, w/ svc pack 3) registry... Does anyone here know of software called "Rabia" (that's the local machine key), with 2 sub-keys, "CodV4Q==", and "DYNV4Q==" containing binary data? My virus/trojan/spybot detectors have found nothing, so I'm stumped. After deletion, these entries appear immediately after a re-boot. Thanks for your help. Don in Oakland

Hi, A couple of weeks ago I had a bad virus on my computer (Anti-Vir 2010 suite or something like that). I ran all the scans out there, and thought i had removed it. But then, my websites and google searches kept getting redirected to other websites. That was the only indication that there was still an infection on my computer. Avast, AVG, Ad-aware, MBAM were all super clean, no infections found. So I recently also downloaded Avira, AntiSuperSpyware, and Spy-Bot search and destroy, and they all found a lot of infections and removed them. But the problem still persists. …

i recently found out i had the virus called RECYCLER, and that it had infected my usb and hard drive. So the first thing i did was end the process called ctfmon.exe, as i read it was part of the virus. I also ran a program called combofix with a script that was supposed to kill the virus completely from my usb and my harddrive. However i went to check my processes again and found a few peculiar processes - csrss.exe, smss.exe, lsass.exe, slserv.exe, catchme.tmp, x2 dllhost.exe, plugin-container.exe, msdtc.exe, jqs.exe, sched.exe, and finally the ctfmon.exe had returned. Hello; I recently started having a problem on my Dell E1505 laptop running Windows XP-SP3, where multiple internet browser windows start opening by themselves ramdomly. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm using IE8, Firefox or AOL Browser, the problem keeps happening. I'm running Trend Micro Internet Security 2010 and it does not report any viruses or problems. I also downloaded and ran MalwareBytes AntiMalware and it didn't show any problems. Greetings From E.G.: I want to help those whom I can help. Back up all your data first VIP> On a flash drive or whatever your preference is. Then if you know where your last restore point was before the viruses, spyware, maleware, etc showed up...Try this. Go to your last restore point, see if your computer is working properly. I always look at my device manager to see what programs are running, if there is a program or file that you don't recognize, that is probably corrupted then you can isolate the maleware, viruses, etc. Get rid of that …

It locked me out of my Task Manager and out of my readit files and nothing I do will turn it back on. Onto of that I bought the AVG pro version but I can't get it to download. Everytime I start it up it eventually comes to a page that tells me that some software may be potientally uncompatible with the AVG program and that I must remove it before I can install it. Friend of mine is starting a business and was asking what most computer repair shops use as a virus remover... I've always used an assortment of programs and then usually end up having to google how to remove after I figure out which virus the pc is infected with. However, it got me thinking. What are these medium - large sized businesses using for virus removal. I imagine the larger businesses are either partnered with one of the main virus removers apps or they use proprietary software. Does anyone know of decent software for detection/removal of virus that has commercial …

Apparently, the besieged, McAfee antivirus-protected world saw little relief in the past 24 hours with McAfee engineers still scrambling to come forth with an answer. I guess the Executive VP, Barry McPherson, doesn't use his own product because he was able to post to his blog a couple of times yesterday--although he's been oddly silent today. Sup, Barry? Cheap labor starting to affect your business? Maybe it's time that we all reconsider the "cost savings" and promises of "just as good as" development. Unrelated you say? Possibly. But, it's never happened before in the history of McAfee, so you tell …

BRIEF BACKGROUND Two weeks ago, Avira's rescue CD reported for one computer: "Contains code of the Boot.1 virus". However, the closest match in their database is W-Boot.1 for which an alias is Dr. Web's WBoot. Malwarebytes saw nothing. AVG saw nothing. Dr. Web reported for another computer: "A: Boot Sector" and status as "NYB". but I tried detected anything. Since then, suspicious activities continued even though no antimalware solution is able to detect anything. Disabling network access is a primary activity of this virus. It also deletes and corrupts various device drivers or files associated with their functioning, interferes with …

I've seen a collection of articles about computer security breaches originating from China and would like to give a report from the ITYS Foundation. ITYS, for the unaware, is "I Told You So." I'm constantly told that Linux on the desktop is dead. I've even said it myself after taking too many verbal lashings when touting Linux as a prospective desktop operating system. No, I'm not talking about a Linux vs. Microsoft or Apple vs Microsoft but rather a prediction by UN Telecommunications Agency Chief Hamadoun Toure'. Apparently, the U.S. Homeland Security and other U.S.-based paranoia groups agree since US Secretary for Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said that she received the green light to hire up to 1,000 cybersecurity experts to ramp up the United States' defenses against cyber threats. Need a job? To launch such an attack successfully would take thousands of experienced hackers in different locations simultaneously attacking a site or sites with malicious intent.
