DaniWeb is moving to a new server, thanks to your donations and advertisement contributions! So thank you all!

The server move will take place either tonight or tomorrow night, during off-peak hours. Downtime is not expected or expected to be very minimal.

While the actual DaniWeb database is being moved from the old server to new server, the forum will be read-only to ensure that the old and new servers are in sync. This should not take very long.

Well that certainly didn't work as expected! Nearly three hours of completely unexpected downtime were experienced ........ I apologize! :( The good news is we're on the new server and everything should be working as expected (I hope).

Of course it didn't go as expected; that's the law.

Everything seems to be back to normal now :D

So, did we change hosting companies, or just servers?

We went from a Dual Xeon 2.4 ghz with 1 gig of ram and 2 IDE drives to a Dual Xeon 2.8 ghz with 2 gigs of ram and three SCSI drives in RAID 5. Same hosting company. Same datacenter. There wasn't even supposed to be any downtime. The only problem was after the move had already successfully taken place, there was a problem in trying to update PHP on the new server and it took over an hour to debug. :( Of course, not expecting there to be any problems, the DNS was already pointing to the new server.
