So, back in the 1990s, I was a teenager with a home network. All of my computers had names that ended in "-putie". My laptop was Portaputie. My server was Servaputie. My primary coding linux box was Codaputie. And so on. If my friends came over with their laptop (or, during LAN parties, even their full-on desktops), I required them to change their computer's name in Network Settings before I would allow them into Putieville, the name of the Windows workgroup. I was a weird kid.

I name things by user/brand. My two laptops are JIM-ASUS and JIM-DELL. With luck I will soon have a JIM-LENOVO.

I've got the money. Adam is waiting to receive one as a work bonus. He's waiting for the newer model to be available. With luck he'll get it before he comes home for a visit at the end of September. If I like it then I'll order one for myself. He's currently scuba diving in Bali and communing with Komodo Dragons so laptops are not foremnost in his mind right now.

I name my devices after family cats. For example my phone is called walter and my old iMac is called duchess.

Doesn’t that get confusing in your household? What if you go around asking, “Where’s Walter?” Do your family members bring you your phone or your cat?

When anyone asks me tech questions, I say I don't know the answer. Unless they post on DaniWeb. Then, even if I don't know the answer, I research until I have something to respond to them with.

I always liked the programming questions that required me to do a bit of research. That way at least two people learn something new.

Most of my actual computers are named after trees (larch, elm etc). The number of computers I've had at home has occasionally reached double digits, so I needed a decent set of names to choose from.

On the fun side, I had for a time a spare router that I just left powered on (not connected to anything), with the SSID of "P3X451".
