I’m looking for recommendations for binge-worthy tv shows, ideally in the sci-fi or fantasy genre.

"Severance" / "Dark" - must see.

"Silo" - I watched season 1 in two days, now I'm watching season 2, it's amazing.

"From" - do not watch before you go to sleep, better find a company. I'm not saying it's 24/7 scares * out of you but there are some moments ... :)

If you want to relax and just watch something exciting, start with “From” or “Silo.”
If you want to reflect and suddenly stop understanding what is happening on the screen, then watch “Severance” / “Dark.”

I looked it up and I'm not sure if it sounds like something I'd be interested in. Specifically, it seems a little too political for me. I loved Star Trek TNG and I couldn't watch DS9 because I found it too political, for example.

"Severance" / "Dark" - must see.

Severance is one of my favorite TV shows, so I'm definitely all caught up on that and waiting the next season. Hopefully it comes around sooner this time!

I'm also all caught up with Silo. I admit, however, that at the end of season one, I couldn't wait for season two, so I googled the answers to all of the mysteries based on the book. That didn't make season 2 any less rewarding to watch, though! It's still not as up there as Severance is for me though.

I'm generally not really into terror and especially jump scares. Typically I'm looking for something for my husband and I to watch before bed and unwind after we've both finished our work for the day. So maybe this isn't the best for that :)

Lord of the Rings. Sometimes they run them on TV. There is a series.

  • The Hobbit
  • The Fellowship of the Ring
  • The Two Towers
  • The Return of the King

Lost -- mystery, suspense, sci-fi or other, but always keeps you asking questions and coming back. Even the most improbable things are made to seem plausible..

Person of Interest -- hooks you and keeps stringing you along as Lost does, flirting with the real and unreal

Bones-- science and reality pushed, but never abandons the plausible. Science used to solve crimes. Often a little grizzly in terms of imagery. 12 or more seasons.

Crossing Jordan -- coroner/med. examiner in Boston. Both drama and comedy, with med examiners using science to solve crimes.⁴from '90s.

Based on the description - and this might be wrong - it seems a bit more like a sitcom with what I refer to as dumb comedy. Am I off the mark?

It's a comedy, but it's not dumb. It's one of those shows you'll either love or hate. Like The Good Place.

  1. Banshee

The Good Place had some redeeming qualities, but the thing is that generally I’m not a fan of comedy.

I'll second a few already mentioned:

  • Burn Notice: Fun entertainment, worth it for Sam Axe alone. Makes you want to drink more Mojito's
  • Red Dwarf: Technically sci-fi, but outrageously funny (in a very British kind of way).
  • Banshee: Way more violent and saucy than is necessary but good watching all the same. The baddie's zero-emotion sidekick is the highlight.
  • Person of Interest: Good because it's nearly plausible.

Others:

  • Game of Thrones: I never got into it but it's hugely popular over here, partly because they filmed a lot of it in Northern Ireland. Anyone with facial hair got recruited as an extra.
  • Derry Girls: Not sci-fi or fantasy but ruddy funny.
  • The Outsider: I'll watch anything made from a Stephen King story.
  • Hanna: A series that came after the movie, and just as good.

How about Orphan Black? Fifty episodes and a decent score on IMDB.

- I was surprised to find out that the actor who plays The Hound in GoT was also the guy from Hot Fuzz who says only, "Yarp" (he may have also said "Narp"). All in all, G0T was a much meatier role.

If you like sci-fi and fantasy, I’d recommend Stranger Things, The Expanse, and The Witcher. They’re really binge-worthy!

If you want to go retro, how about the twilight zone.

The intro might take some explaining though to someone who's never seen TV on a CRT.

How many of you have watched Evil Web Series? It's there on Jio Hotstar and maybe few other networks like Amazon Prime.

It's a very interesting story that blends the material and spiritual worlds, and makes you question at each step whether this was just another dark but mundane event or was there some unexplainable conspiracy behind this? You'll probably also find many real world parallels in both protagonists and antagonists (like that "elite hacker" stereotype who must be watching all your digital activity right now from somewhere somehow - or that "sinister bureaucrat" stereotype who wields all the political power to cause bad things to happen in society, and even the "benevolent protagonist" who is trying to fix broken things and doing good, etc).

All in all, a great watch and highly addictive series in my opinion.

I really enjoyed Flashforward from a few years back. Unfortunately it was cancelled after one season. I read the book it was based on and was disappointed that the series used only the basic context so the book didn't tie up the loose ends.
