After teaching comp sci and math for almost 30 years in Montreal, Canada, I retired 5 years ago, took a lot of linguistics courses, became interested in Japanese, then Chinese, and finally got my ESL certification. So here I am in Neijiang (Sichuan) teaching oral and written English to a bunch of friendly college girls (and a few boys) in the local teachers' college. Will be here at least until July 2010.
Got interested in Python a few years ago, so in my bits of free time I've been slowly developing a flash card program for learning Chinese vocab -- I didn't like any of the programs I found on the Web. At best this involves database and GUI work, so I'm learning sqlite and wxpython too. Unfortunately the wxpython book was too heavy for my suitcase, so I'm having to rely on expert help for the stuff I don't understand. And that, I'm afraid, brings me to you!
