Hi. Will here. I'm a hardware type and i'm not really sure how I got here ;) but I did. I saw one of cscgals posts and read on. My mind was boggled with scripts. Been with hardware forums and owned a shop, and done a few reviews, but mainly just can't take my hands off of hardware and stress it to the inth degree sometimes. I also enjoy building rigs for normal types (non-overclockers), setting up networks (wired and wirelss), and small business servers with Linux and 'winders'. . Don't see much about advanced hardware here but that's ok. Perhaps...that was what actually kept me reading here. Anyway. Maybe i'll register ~ who knows :) Nice to see such a different type of forum though that touches many differing thing about tech and software/programming (which I know not much about).

Welcome Will :) . Advanced hardware eh? Well we just have a hardware forum where all of our hardware questions etc. go :). Man it's 8:30 in the morning and I'm at work about to fall asleep... *yawn*

Yeah I saw the hardware forum. Mostly recommendations and such. Looks like I will spend alot more time reading here about code than posting though since i'm trying to learn some Pearl and C++. I have been at amdmb (now PCperspective) for a long while, and I'll probably continue to contribute there mostly. Hardware will always be my foremost interest. I got interested with software actuall from the security end by learning how to secure servers with Linux - and Windows. As such, learning all about vulnerabilities from the inside was key. Flaws in code and such.

Hey there Unregistered Guest type-person. Welcome to DaniWeb :)

Hello everyone, I'm bluz and I just found daniweb.com today. Seems like a good place to be a part of.

Hey there Unregistered Guest type-person. Welcome to DaniWeb :)

Thanks cscgal. I'm not a lurker anymore :D

I am new to this forum and therefore, I have no idea where my thread should go. So, I apologize in advance. I need help in solving this problem. I have a wireless connection from a router (lynksis speedbooster). I am no longer able to pick up a connection on my laptop from the PC upstairs in my house. I have tried everything, I have plugged, unplugged, checked cables. When I go into the promp command, it seems that my media is disconnected. I am not a computer wiz and dont know much when it comes to technical help on PC's. Could someone please tell me what I should do to reconnect the disconnected media from the laptop. I am sure that this has to do with IP addresses not matching up but I am not savvy enough to figure this out on my own. Thanks.

Hello everyone. First timer here.

Hi all. Just joined, and I already have a query...
I have two PCs at home, one of which has broadband internet and I wish to share the Internet between the two, ideally with a Wireless network.
I was wondering whether or not a Wirleless network would provide enough "speed" to allow the second PC to play games on the Internet, or would I need a cable network to the Bradband modem?

I'd rather not have any cables. The second PC is the floor above, any idea on how much slower the WiFi would be than within line-of-sight?

Thank you all :cheesy:

Hi joka, and wecome to DaniWeb.

We have Forum sections for a wide range of topic areas. Please post your question as a new topic in the 'Networking' section so that you can attract a response to it and gain assistance.

The name is Brent. I just graduated at the age of 20 with a BS in Finance from the University of Florida. I am currently workinng on electronic circuits at a major Ohio company while I await a finance job.
I did a little programming in high school, but I have forgotten most of it. I am currently learning C and the Linux platform. I hope to be able enough to become a Linux developer and possibly write my own financial software to sell.
I often post by the name of WolFGanG because W.A. Mozart is my favorite composer and also because it is such a cool name.
I had plans of moving to NYC, but that will not happen now because I don't feel like being a terrorist target, so I have to find another avenue into the world of the stock market.
That is all about me.

hi chris and welcome

can someone help me please. i need help dealing with yahoo chat. I have Mozilla 4.0 for my brower and i do not know how i got it. i think that it might be my problem why i can not use voice chat in the chat rooms. i have xp and use internet explorer.

Hi keylargobaby and welcome. We have a "Windows Software" section for questions about using Windows programs, and specialised sections for Windows problems, Internet Explorer problems and a heap more besides! Post your problem and question in the appropriate section and I'm sure it will receive attention.

Just got back online from the hurricane down here in south florida. No power for a week, cufews, closed stores, trees down everywhere. It has been a mess, but all is back to normal now. Until another comes around.

Hello to all .. I'm a mac user from a country town in Australia who found this site and hope that I can get help with a problem that is literally driving me around the bend and droping me off the edge. I know nothing of the inner mysteries of the mac and need to be spoken too like the unenlightened child that I am. I work with computers every day mostly non mac. I upgraded my old imac just a couple of months ago. If someone can help me with an infuriating random screen saver problem i will sell my soul to them ( please don't bother if you have horns and a breath smelling of sulfur I'm not that desperate )

ha ha ha well i must be a blond it says yo post a question to click on "new thred" i have looked all over and i dont see that anywhere lol well i have a big problem and i dont know how to fix it and i need help please help direct me to where i need to be and how to ask for help
totally confused ;)

Yeah, same here. It is not easy geting the basics down pat.

Hey there forum lurkers - all you people who are browsing the site but still haven't taken a minute to sign up. I just thought it would be a nice idea to welcome you all to the forums. Why not drop us a line and say howdy here? Heck, you don't even need to register to reply to threads here in the Geek's Lounge forum! Go ahead, introduce yourself ;)

Hello cscgal and all ... I am an older man who resides in a small village in northern Canada ... on dial-up internet and so I am seldom "Up to Speed" in many ways. I enjoy computers and learning in general so I will likely register and 'lurk' with some sense of propriety.
