Hi,
I am a newbie to networking, but is there a way that you can give
someone access to the internet within a Lan without the PC seeing the
rest of the LAN network?
FI: the OS is XP?

When you say see the rest of the network, I suppose you refer to looking at each other's shared folders?!
1) Filter out NET-BIOS if your router permits.
2) Those who doesn't want praying eyes on their computer, make them password their shared folder, or totally stop sharing folders.

there are quite a few schemes for that, all depending on the equipment you are using and the complexity of the network
