OK, this is what you need to do:

1. You need to make sure that your Mac has a CD burner (or DVD burner, if you're planning to make a DVD).
2. You do not need Toast. Mac OS X comes with all the tools you need to make a Photo CD. I recommend putting the photos in one folder.
3. Insert a blank CD or DVD. A window should pop up, asking you what you want to do. Choose "Open with Finder" option, and click OK.
4. Drag all your photos onto the disk icon that mounts on your desktop.

Finally, double-click the icon of the CD or DVD, and click on the yellow/black striped circle in the top-right hand corner of the Finder window.

Also note that this method will most likely not work with a DVD player -- for that, you will need to use commercial software such as iDVD.
