The thread captures the old split between handing content to directories and keeping it on owned sites. asked the question, while , and represent the range of opinions. A useful, modern take is that article distribution can still play a role — but only when it is strategic, not automatic.
Publish original articles first on owned properties, then syndicate selectively. When syndicating, insist the republisher signals the original source (preferably with a rel=canonical to the original article) or publishes only a short excerpt plus a clear attribution. Example canonical tag:
<link rel="canonical" href="https://example.com/original-article-page" /> Avoid mass-submitting identical full-text copies to low-quality directories. Search engines increasingly devalue duplicate and low-value content, and over-optimized anchor text or spun articles create risk. Use syndication for audience reach, brand visibility, and targeted referrals — not primarily for easy backlinks.
Measure value with concrete metrics: referral traffic, time on page, leads or conversions, backlinks earned, and lift in branded searches. Tag syndicated links with UTM parameters for clean analytics and periodically audit syndicated placements; remove or noindex copies that are generating no value. Prioritize niche, well-moderated sites with real readership over generic article farms.
Practical workflow:
This balances ’s emphasis on creativity and ’s on owning value while still letting ’s point about reach be realized in a controlled, measurable way.

I disagree... submitting your articles to third party websites in hopes that they will bring you more traffic (or links) is rather short sighted. It is much more effective to host your content on your own website, retain the value and rights of your content, and promote the articles within or through social media.
Why give away your content and make other websites better when you can keep the content and make your website a better resource. A resource worth citing with links and visiting with users. :)
Article still useful for marketing and business promotion
