Hi my system is running a bit slow especially since I upgraded Messenger and Internet explorer. I think my disks are a bit heavy?? It's slow and strange maybe it's sick I did the HJT.

Windows Live Hotmail runs very weirdly aswell (slow and doesn't always work)

My Disk size on Local Disk D is : 11.6GB and I've got 4.13GB free space.
I heard I should have at least half of the disk space free for faster operation can you please advise me how to considerably free up my disk space. I already deleted lots of stuff, moved a large amount to my other disks and did disk cleanup.

In my d:program files I have MSN which is 30.9MB. Can I delete this since I now have Windows live?

Plus there's stuff like 'NetMeeting' which I don't use but I'm not sure if I can delete these or they are underlying necessary programs?

In my documents and settings please tell me what I can delete.
D:/Documents and Settings

Administator : size 4.41MB

Administrator.FND : size 3.85MB

Administrator.FND.000 : size 3.90 MB

Alan.Kala : size larger han 10.9 MB ( this is where all my main docs are)

All Users : size larger than 13.5 MB

Guest : size 1.6MB

Can I delete some of these folders safely?

I also attached a hijackthis log incase it's viral.

Hi to you Crunchie if you're reading..thanks for your help last time :)
Thanks very much X Danielle

Quick, practical diagnosis and a safe, ordered workflow to follow.

The log and the replies suggest two likely causes rather than an obvious active infection: limited free space plus extra browser/toolbars and auto-start processes. is correct that the per-user Documents tree is often small; reclaiming whole-drive space (temporary files, unused programs, system restore data, large media) is usually where the real gains are.

Recommended checklist (do these in order):

  1. Back up important documents to external media.
  2. Run an up-to-date full AV scan and a dedicated on-demand antimalware scan (for example Malwarebytes) to rule out malware before major changes. Malwarebytes guide.
  3. Use Windows Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr) and the More Options tab to remove temporary files and old restore points; then uninstall unused programs from Add/Remove Programs instead of deleting Program Files manually. Free up drive space (Microsoft Support).
  4. Do not use HijackThis to randomly delete entries—HijackThis is a diagnostic/logging tool, not a catch-all remover; use its log to get expert help or as part of a removal plan. HijackThis info.

Browser and startup troubleshooting: run Internet Explorer in “No Add‑ons” mode to test whether add-ons/toolbars cause the slow behavior, then disable or remove offending add-ons via IE’s Manage Add‑ons or uninstall the toolbar from Add/Remove Programs. For a deeper look at autostart items, use Sysinternals Autoruns to safely disable unnecessary startup entries. Manage Add-ons (Microsoft). Autoruns (Sysinternals).

After freeing meaningful space, run Disk Defragmenter (the XP defrager may need a substantial free percentage to complete; many tools expect ~15% free). If slowness remains, check disk health with chkdsk, monitor processes with Process Explorer, and consider hardware fixes (more RAM, larger/faster drive) or a clean OS reinstall as a last resort. Disk Defragmenter note (Microsoft Q&A).

Hi Danielle and welcome to daniweb. Sorry it has taken so long for you to receive a reply.
Adding up the total of the files in your Documents and Settings is a grand total of 38.16MB or 0.03GB...nothing, really a mere crumb.
That is not where you are going to regain space by removing files, as you can see.
The way to clean out a hard drive and regain space is to remove other things you may have stored there, temp files to begin with, music, pictures, videos, old programs you do not use. All of these take up a huge amount of space.
Music, pictures and videos burn them to disks and then delete them from the computer entirely. DON'T just delete, but use Add/Remove to UNINSTALL programs you no loner use, delete old emails sent and received that you may have stored on the computer.

Did you, or anyone else see any problems with my HJT log?
Do I have a virus? My PC is acting weird (slow) since I upgraded Windows live and messenger.
Please check my HJT log.
Thanks very much for your time and consideration.

I really don't see anything out of the ordinary. If you are concerned about possible infection then you should run the steps here and see if anything turns up. HiJackThis is actually the last step, not the first and does not show all infections possibly on a computer. A "clean" HJT log doesn't necessarily mean a computer has no infections, if you are concerned about possible infections.
