This looks like a persistent infection that survived a reinstall and is interfering with system utilities. ’s suggestions about cleaning the system and avoiding major service-pack installs until the machine is clean are sound; the new symptoms (a browser helper DLL and files in the profile/Application Data area, plus entries that indicate DNS/hijack behavior) point to a trojaned user profile, System Restore restoring the payload, or a second partition/drive carrying the offending files.

Recommended remediation sequence (do these in order):

  1. Isolate the machine: remove network connectivity (unplug Ethernet / disable Wi‑Fi) to stop callbacks and downloads.
  2. Prevent automatic restore of the infection: disable System Restore and delete existing restore points before attempting removals.
  3. Work in Safe Mode (F8) and use non-installed tools: run an up‑to‑date scanner (from a rescue CD/USB or a “second opinion” scanner), and use Sysinternals Autoruns to find and disable startup items and BHOs. Look for any unexpected EXE/DLL in user Application Data folders and remove them after killing their process. If a file has system/hidden attributes, remove those first, for example:
    attrib -s -h -r "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\infected.exe"
    del /f "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\infected.exe"
  4. Check the hosts file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) and remove suspicious entries; clear any unfamiliar Trusted Sites entries in Internet Options; run a full offline/full-disk scan once files are removed.
  5. Spybot S&D hangs often when real‑time products conflict. Stop or uninstall competing real‑time shields (temporarily) and run Spybot from Safe Mode. If Windows system files appear corrupted, run:
    sfc /scannow

(from an elevated command prompt with the XP CD available).

If the infection persists after these steps, back up only personal documents (not executables or installers), fully format the system partition and perform a clean Windows install from known‑good media, then patch immediately and install a single, current AV + firewall.

You need to go to Windows Update and get the Critical Updates for your system. Hold off on SP2, however, at least until your system gets cleaned up.

As long as you use P2P programs (like Shareaza) you are likely to encounter problems.

Is 'Admanager Controller' a program you installed? I can't find any info on it.

Remove Newdotnet, either from Add/Remove programs in your Control Panel, or by going to:

And scroll down to the uninstall tool.

Scan with HJT and have it fix the following entries:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [abu] abu.exe

Fix these if you did not put them in your Trusted Zone:

Close all windows other than HJT before you hit the Fix button.

Do a search for Savebait.exe, and ACTIVE TEST POKE.exe
when you find them, right-click on each, go to Properties, and give us what info you can on them.

Do you know anything about this one:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\locksbowsstupidextra\Internet Sign.exe
If not, give us the info on Internet Sign.exe as well

Do a search for abu.exe and delete any instances found

Close all browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log please, along with the requested information.

My search failed to load so I can't search for the files requested by you. My winxp has problems so I reinstalled it again, but still can't use the search. However, I attach the new HJT log. Pls help me to find what problem I have.
