Good to see the thread resolved the worst of the symptoms. The HijackThis output and the followups from show a classic browser‑hijack/persistence pattern: broken/ghost BHOs and URL/search hooks, altered startup entries and third‑party add‑ons (often seeded by P2P or drive‑by installs). ’s Safe‑Mode removals and deletion of the offending third‑party folder stopped the popups, and confirmed the system behaved normally afterwards — that is the expected immediate outcome.

Checklist of verification and follow‑up actions (common, practical steps):

  • Run full, up‑to‑date scans with at least one reputable antivirus and one anti‑malware tool; repeat from Safe Mode or from bootable rescue media if anything looks stubborn.
  • Inspect browser add‑ons and ActiveX/plug‑in lists; remove unknown entries and reset homepage/search providers to trusted values.
  • Check network-related settings (proxy, hosts file, LSPs/Winsock) and scheduled tasks or services for unexpected entries; repairing Winsock and clearing a rogue proxy often restores normal web access.
  • Clear/recreate System Restore points after a confirmed clean so infected snapshots are not retained.
  • Change passwords for accounts accessed from the machine once cleanup is complete, since credential theft is a common follow‑on.

Hardening and prevention:

  • Keep OS, browser and plugins patched and enable a software firewall and real‑time AV.
  • Avoid running as Administrator for daily use and remove or tightly control P2P/unknown file‑sharing clients.
  • Back up important data and consider a clean reinstall when indicators of rootkit activity or continued instability persist — a full reinstall is often the fastest way to guarantee the system is clean.

Summary: ’s removals were the right first move; follow the verification checklist above and harden the system to reduce the chance of reinfection.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :
