Nice cleanup so far — ’s WeatherBug suggestion was appropriate and ’s follow-up scan shows the obvious nuisance gone. A few items in the second log still deserve a quick check before calling it perfect: the ZeroBar / NZSearch entries are NetZero components (they’re installed with the NetZero client), so they’re normal if the machine uses NetZero but can be removed if not. The O2 entry that shows “(no file)” is an orphaned BHO entry (registry pointer with the file missing) and the O8 context‑menu item pointing to C:\WINDOWS\System32\sys32.htm is worth inspecting — treat it as suspect until scanned. ()

Practical, low‑risk workflow to finish the cleanup:

  1. Back up personal files and create a System Restore point before changing anything. (learn.microsoft.com)
  2. Run a focused adware/PUP sweep (AdwCleaner) and a full on‑demand scan (Malwarebytes) — these remove toolbars, NZSearch remnants and common PUPs safely. Reboot and re‑scan. (malwarebytes.com)

If orphaned BHOs or startup links remain, use Autoruns (Sysinternals) to find entries marked “File not found” or unsigned non‑Microsoft items and remove the registry pointer rather than randomly deleting system files. For any suspicious file (for example sys32.htm), open it in Notepad to see if it’s just an HTML snippet, and submit the file or its hash to VirusTotal before deleting. If unsure about an item, disable it first and test. (learn.microsoft.com)

Final notes: don’t delete McAfee, Sygate or other security/firewall services unless you intend to remove that product; they belong on the machine. Also remember this system is XP (no longer supported by Microsoft since April 8, 2014) — consider upgrading when practical because unsupported OSes are inherently risky. (blogs.microsoft.com)

WeatherBug is related to adware and, in my opinion, should be removed. You can decide for yourself; here are a couple of links:

If you decide to uninstall it, go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and remove WeatherBug

Regardless of your decision regarding WeatherBug, scan with HJT and have it fix the following entries:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

And these only if you don't want WeatherBug:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Weather] C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\Weather.exe 1
O16 - DPF: {2B96D5CC-C5B5-49A5-A69D-CC0A30F9028C} (MiniBugTransporterX Class) - ?

Close all windows other than HJT before hitting the Fix button

Last step, again only if you don't want WeatherBug:
Reboot into Safe Mode
Go to C:\Program Files\AWS and delete the WeatherBug folder

Reboot normally

Close all browser windows, scan with HJT and post a new log

dlh6213
did as you said and also deleted weatherbug. Here is the latest log from Highjack this:::
