Please do the following:
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

Reboot the computer

Please Run the ESET Online Scanner and attach the ScanLog with your post for assistance.

* You will need to use Internet Explorer to to complete this scan.
* You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.

* Be sure the option to Remove found threats is checked and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.
* When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log for us as directed below.

Reboot the computer

Once rebooted run a NEW HJT scan and save the log.
Post back here with the MBA-M log, the ESET Scanner Log and the new HJT log.

Who is your internet server? To find the final MBA-M log, open the program and click on the Log Tab. The log should be in there.
If no other log shows then that means that no, there was no cleaning done. If that is the case update and run it again. Be sure to Remove Selected and then Reboot the computer.
Then run a new HJT scan.
I will be away awhile tomorrow so may not be back here until later in the day.
Judy

I have run Malwarebytes several times making sure I'm asking it to remove the stuff it finds. However, it seems to clean every thing except the items in the list below which keep coming up in every scan. I ran the tool the second time after I poster last night and here is the result. I will run ESET and will post the results later.

Please note from my previous post that Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is detecting the last remaining problems over and over but it does not seem to be able to remove them. I have updated its files and have looked around but I don't think it's a configuration or setup issue. Here is my last round of data. Please let me know if you'd like me to try something different. Hope to see you on line soon :-)

Open Device Manager and on the VIEW Tab, select the Show hidden devices option.
Go down to non plug and play drivers and see if there is one called TDSSserv and disable it.
Then immediately update MBA-M and run that full scan again, have it remove items found.
Reboot the computer.
Then run HJT again and post both logs.

I checked and there is no TDSSserv. This may be coincidental but I've noticed that I have an extra CD ROM driver in explorer which I thought was associated with Daemon tool but it's not. Both CD ROM drives "D" and "E" point to the same physical drive (they both show the same files on a CD). I tried to get rid of it but I have not been able to. Is there a command line or a way to send you my non-plug and play devices? I have some that don't look right like wdf01000 or ksecdd or mnmdd.

Please let me know if you'd like me to try something else.

I am asking Crunchie to take a look at this one.

I will probably get criticised for this, but because of what MBA-M has found, I would like for you to run Combofix first, before we do anything else.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Physically disconnect from the internet.
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Run Combofix ONCE only!!

Here is the log. I have to leave now until tomorrow but a quick test with 10 links went to where they were supposed to- no redirect. Please continue to give me your feedback and I will get back with you on Sunday. A note, Combofix complained about not finding MS recovery console and I was not sure what came out of that. Thanks for your help.

Can you please do the following.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {17A54BFC-8214-4F5C-B1A7-A161BFA5FDCC} - C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1.SYS\Working\IEMon.dll

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1.SYS

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

Thanks for all your help. The machine is running perfectly now. Unless you'd like me to try something else, I would consider this a success.

I know there are tons of apps out there that try to prevent what happened here. I would appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction to use some sort of active protection.

Thanks again.

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Download CCleaner and install, then run it. It will clear out your temp folders.

  1. Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
  2. Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.
  3. Close when finished.

====

An alternative to Ccleaner is ATF Cleaner.
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

====

Use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera, which in my opinion, is better still.

====

Use a firewall. It is an essential part of your computers security. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

====

Install and keep updated,
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html)

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Download the update from here if you have problems.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

====

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

====

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

=====

For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start | Run and type msconfig and press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

Note that all previous restore points will be lost.

Please mark this thread as solved if all is well.

If you have any more problems, post back.
