I know i've got the dreaded drpmon aurora thing going on. I've run several types of spyware removal programs and it still seems to get worse. I hope you can help; at this point i can only get rid of enough stuff to see half the screen!

Hi and welcome to Daniweb :).

You have a lot going on there, so I will ask that you do the following before we continue :).

1. Download and install Ad-Aware SE, keeping the default options. However, some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan

2.Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE

3. Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.

4. Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window

1) In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
*Automatically save log-file
*Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
*Safe Mode (always request confirmation)

Under Definitions:
*Prompt to udate outdated definitions - set the number of days

2) Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green :

Under Driver, Folders & Files:
*Scan Within Archives

Under Select drives & folders to scan -
*choose all hard drives

Under Memory & Registry: all green
*Scan Active Processes
*Scan Registry
*Deep Scan Registry
*Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
*Scan my Hosts file

3) Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:

Under Shell Integration:
*Move deleted files to recycle bin

Under Logfile Detail Level: (all green)
*include addtional object information
*DESELECT - include negligible objects information
*include environment information

Under Alternate Data Streams:
*Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
*Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT

4) Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:

Under the ‘Scanning Engine’:
*Unload recognized processes during scanning
*Scan registry for all users instead of current user only

Under the ‘Cleaning Engine’:
*Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Under the Log Files:
*Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
*Please do not check or make green: Include Module list in logfile

5. Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.

6. Click ‘Start’

*Choose:'Perform Full System Scan'
*DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

7. Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.

8. If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window

9. Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘finish’

10. REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found

Download & instal Spybot S&D 1.3 from here. Update it before scanning.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. This program will prevent the install of bad activex controls that it has knowledge of. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it. Reboot

----

Please visit at least two of the following sites for an online virus scan:

BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan
http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php
Make sure you tick AutoClean under Scan Options.

Panda ActiveScan
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
Make sure you tick Disinfect automatically under Scan Options.

Housecall at TrendMicro
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
Make sure you tick Auto Clean.

eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

----

Reboot when done and post another log please.

I have done everything you asked except visiting the various sites listed to check for viruses. I can no longer open internet explorer; I get an error message that says the iexplore.exe file doesn't exist. (I am usung my husbands connection to post this.)

To make things simpler it would be better for you to either do a system restore to before you ran the above programs I posted, or go into the programs and restored whatever they fixed.
I have never had this happen with either of those programs, so do not know what went wrong :(.

I will try to system restore. Should I rerun those programs after I do so?

crunchie,

I restored the entire system to the beginning of the month. The iexplore.exe file is still missing. I have downloaded and installed Firefox on to my computer and it seems to be connecting and running smoothly. My concern isn't so much restoring IE, but that I would still like to completely rid myself of all this spy junk and trojan activity.

Thanks!

crunchie is right- your logs show signs of numerous infections. :(

In addition to SpyBot and Ad Aware, please download, install, and run the following two utilities; use each program's online update function before running them to make sure you have the most current updates installed.

After each utility completes its fixes, reboot before continuing on to the next utility; have the utilities fix all of the problematic/malicious items they find:

ewido Security Suite - http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Microsoft Anti-Spyware beta - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en

It would probably be a good idea to also do the following general cleanup:

- Reboot into safe mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up)

- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".

- For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (but not the folders themselves):

Important: One of the normal steps in eliminating malicious programs is to entirely delete the contents of all Temp folders. Given that, if any data that you care about is living in those Temp folders, you need to move it to a safe location now, or it will be erased along with everything else!

1. Cookies
2. Local Settings\Temp
3. Local Settings\History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Prefetch folder.

Note- If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed. Windows will allow you to delete the versions of those files which exist in sub-folders within the main Temp/Temorary folders, but might not let you delete the versions of those files that exist in the main Temp folders themselves; this is normal and OK.

- Empty your Recycle Bin.

- Reboot normally, run HijackThis again, and post a new log.

Hi DMR,
So, once again, here is the HJT log after I did what you asked:

Is there hope?

You have some entries there that need removing.

===============

Open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

OR

You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u richedtr.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

===============

Let's look for, and delete, any program segments(prefetches) that might be present, and are associated with the 'problems' we're trying to remove from this system. To do this, let's:

1) Click "Start | Search", then search for each of these program's base name(s), in all files and folders:

encdxm.exe*
dwwpi.exe*

2) Then if any are found in the 'prefetch' folder, delete them.

Look closely, since the 'base' name will have a bunch of random numbers and letters attached to it.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rurjmm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\encdxm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dwwpi.exe
C:\Program Files\Cas\Client\casclient.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Still in HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xvwiz32] C:\WINDOWS\system32\xvwizard32.hta
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cfgmgr52] RunDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll,DllRun

O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = ?

O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - c:\windows\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Now, with all windows closed (including Internet Explorer) except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\Program Files\Cas

files...

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rurjmm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\encdxm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dwwpi.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\richedtr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\cfgmgr52.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\richup.exe
ALCXMNTR.EXE

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Let me know how everything goes.

-

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

i'm in the process of deleting things in safe mode, but i'm still getting an access denied error that the files are in use. What to do?

It seems as if I can't stay ahead of this crap. As I run scans and programs, things are still trying to install and change my IE settings even though I can't access IE any more and am using firefox. It's almost as if once i get to the point you all have asked me to get, the spy ware is already back where we started. Anywho...

Now Showing....

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Thanks Again! On to the next...

Just have to be rid of a trojan now that sometimes accompanies the L2Me infection.

Download rkfiles.zip
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
Unzip the contents to a permanent folder.

Reboot in Safe mode.

Doubleclick rkfiles.bat
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Wait till the DOS window closes and reboot back to normal mode.

To save some time, could you please have each of the files that rkfiles finds, uploaded for an online scan here;

http://virusscan.jotti.org/

Post the contents of C:\log.txt in your next reply.

here you go:

Status:
MIGHT BE INFECTED/MALWARE (Sandbox emulation took a long time and/or runtime packers were found, this is suspicious. Normally programs aren't packed and don't force the sandbox into lengthy emulation. Do realize no scanner issued any warning, the file can very well be harmless. Caution is advised, however.) I find it difficult to believe that all those files were/are clean :(. Especially the random named ones. Oh well :).

Go here and download and run Silent Runners.vbs. It generates a log, please post the information back in this thread.
If you have a script blocking program, please allow the file to run. It is not malicious.

Please post another hijackthis log too.

I got the same results both times those files were scanned. Who knows?

Here is the silent runners log followed by a new hijack this log:

"Silent Runners.vbs", revision 39, http://www.silentrunners.org/

I reckon that once you have done that, all will be well :).

Post another log after rebooting and we will see.

OK, here goes nothing. Thank you Crunchie for all of your help and dedication.

Also, any tips on how I can keep this kind of thing from happening again? I've already set all of IE's setting as high as they will allow and am using firefox instead. I currently have 4 different realtime programs running to protect from malware. Anything else I should be doing?

Please boot into safe mode and run rkfiles again and paste the subsequent log that it creates.

When back up in normal mode, Please go here and download Find_qoologic.zip by baskar1234. Unzip the folder and go to the new qoologic folder and doubleclick on qoologic.bat to run it. It will take a few minutes to scan your drive so be patient. When it has finished, open My Computer, doubleclick on C: and copy and paste the contents of the below logs in this thread.

C:\log.txt
C:\win.txt
C:\start.txt
