Hello,

when I am doing a google search the links get redirected to ads. I have used everything - fsecure, adaware etc to try to find the spyware but I can't.

My hijackthis log is below.

This thread shows a typical browser-hijack pattern. provided a HiJackThis log and is on the right track: run HiJackThis carefully, then follow with an anti-malware scan. The useful checklist below fills in the gaps and adds safe diagnostics so the redirect can be tracked down and removed without damaging the system.

  1. Back up first. Create a System Restore point and save the current HiJackThis log (do not Fix anything until a backup exists).
  2. Use HiJackThis only to remove obvious orphaned toolbars/BHOs (entries whose files are missing) and clearly malicious search/start entries. If any entry is uncertain, post the log rather than fixing it blindly.
  3. Run a full scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (and AdwCleaner). Quarantine everything it finds, reboot, then rescan. If redirects persist, run a reputable rootkit/boot-time scanner (for example TDSSKiller) and an online second-opinion scanner.
  4. Reset the browser and networking checks: reset Internet Explorer (or reinstall the browser), clear search providers, disable any proxy in LAN settings, and clear cache/cookies. Inspect the hosts file and remove nonstandard entries.
  5. Determine scope: try another browser on the same machine and try another device on the same network. If multiple devices show the same redirect, check the router (DNS settings and firmware) — router DNS hijacks are common and require a router reset and firmware update.
  6. If all else fails, consider an offline rescue scan or a Windows repair/clean install. After cleanup, update Windows and all browsers, reinstall only trusted extensions, and change important passwords.

Do not use HiJackThis Fix Checked without confidence. Post updated HiJackThis and Malwarebytes logs if uncertainty remains so helpers can point to the exact entries to remove.

Hi, sorry it has taken you so long to receive a reply.
You might try running HiJackThis again, place check marks next to the following listings;
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O2 - BHO: AskBar BHO - {201f27d4-3704-41d6-89c1-aa35e39143ed} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)

After you have placed the check marks then click the Fix Checked button and Exit HJT.
Reboot.
I would also advise you do at least the MBA-M install and scan noted here and post back with that log.
