virus and walwares headache - hjt posted

hi all,

i've virus scanned, malware scan and remove all that i could remove but the problem getting more serious... now i can't even have access to control panel... everything is blank... below is the HJT scan that i did a couple of minutes ago... hope someone could help me out... already spent a whole day trying to clean my system... really appreciate the help... thanks :)

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Make sure that you restart the computer.

Are you able to change the hard drive? Are you able to load a new XP system onto this PC and use it to scan the infected hard drive? After that, might you be able to copy over any important info you want from the original infected drive? I only ask this since it IS a possiblity that you may not regain proper control of the drive. And, it may be a way to actually clean/regain control of the drive. (to scan it from a clean system). ... it's one possibility.

Make sure that you restart the computer.

Please follow Rik's advice.
You have multiple Trojans on the system. MBA-M WILL be able to remove these.
Once you have done that step then be sure to REBOOT the computer.
Then do the following:

Run the ESET Online Scanner and attach the ScanLog with your post for assistance.

* You will need to use Internet Explorer to to complete this scan.
* You will need to temporarily Disable your current Anti-virus program.
* Be sure the option to Remove found threats is checked and the option to Scan unwanted applications is Checked.
* When you have completed that scan, a scanlog ought to have been created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please post that log for us as directed below.

Reboot the system again.

Run a new HiJackThis scan and post back with all three logs. Rik will be here to read them, if not then I will look at them.
Don't worry at this time about changing the hard drive.

stvrich should realize that this is not generally an option for the average user and not the usual way we first recommend. Most people have access to only one computer.

I suggested what I did above... because, if the owner DOES have a second drive, and can EASILY setup a second (clean) o/s it MAY be easier for him/her to clean it THAT way. It all depends on what you PREFER to do. mess with hardware, or mess with software more... up to the 'technician' doing the job

I myself HAVE come across "infections" that were SO BAD, that ... from WITHIN the operating system it's virtually impossible to clean... 'twas the only reason I suggested it...

take note above. the user says he's already "spent a whole day" trying to clean it.... I am assuming he's already somewhat familiar with what is going on..... all I did was suggest.... a ---DIFFERENT--- type of solution, if it proves to continue to be PROBLEMATIC...

You can reboot, rescan (wait an hour or 3) reboot rescan AGAIN wait another hour or 3...

or,

work from a CLEAN hard drive and do it ONCE. scanning the infected drive with the clean updated one...that HAS the tools and a clean system to work from.

been there... DONE it.

...been in the field, where you get PUNISHED if you spend a whole day doing something.... messin' around all darn day...
when you could scan it one time, and be done. (hopefully if things are prepared properly to accomplish the task)

but, again, the way I suggest will work only if he HAS an extra hard drive, and can do it THAT way.

As jholland1964 quite rightly pointed out, Mbam can remove those particular infections with very little hassle and without having to pull the pc apart and without any expense for new parts.

Sorry for the late reply but my day job is taking all my free times now a days... anyways thanks for all the advice and yes while i know a thing or two about computers the fact that i'm asking for help in this forum means i want to learn how to clean my system the safest way without the need to re-install... done that way to many time ;)

I personally did not edit my HJT files/logs... simply open HJT and click on "Do a system scan and save alog file" and copy & paste all text in notepad that come out of the scan... fyi i don't even know how or what to edit in the HJT scan....

Have you used msconfig to stop auto starts or something? I agree with Crunchie, this log is vastly different from your original. Obviously MBA-M and ESET cleaned things out, but your HJT log shows a multitude of programs now not even running or in Start Ups which were there before. You had 10 Start Ups listed in the original log and now there is one. Where are the rest ? Did you remove all the toolbars and start pages you had on your IE? They are no longer listed either. These wouldn't have been removed by ANY of the scans that you have done, IF they had they would still be listed in HJT but as (missing) so that one could know to remove them. Lots of Yahoo items are gone, none were removed by the scans, and a lot of the Services previously listed are no longer their either. This is very strange, almost looks like a log done in Safe Mode, though even one done in Safe Mode would still show many of those items and they just aren't there.

hi all,

i have to say again that nobody in family have touch or modified anything as far as startup is concern... doubt anybody knows... my comp knowledge is amateurish and not even i have touch anything...

fyi just for the heck of it i tried to boot in safe made.... have press F8 and able to select safe mode and once the driver list is shown my computer will restart automatically and windows will start in normal mode... i've tried this almost half hour and many many times all ready....

and again there's only 1 account in the system and its mine (ie i'm the administrator) and have to password enable and still i can't access control panel or when i load an audio cd in the drive it wont open and says ""this operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on the computer. Please contact your system administrator"

Can you do us a favor? Go to Start, Run, and type in msconfig. When that opens click on the Startup Tab and see how many items are listed there and how many have check marks in them.
Also, using HJT click the Misc Button and when that opens the Top button is Generate Start Up log. Do that and post back with that log and also the info from msconfig.

Honestly, trying to work on this problem with a week in between each request is virtually impossible...UNLESS...you have NOT been using the infected computer in between. Have you been using it since my last request one week ago?
Just using the computer for normal activities while it still has unresolved problems can certainly compromise everything all ready done, especially if those problems are the result of an infection.
Are you using this infected computer daily or are you using a different computer for your daily computing?

HI all,

jholland: thanks fr the advice... u r right so i've decided to spend this whole weekend to fix this headache... no one is going to use this computer untill this problem is fixed so i've done a fresh es online scan, mbm and new hjt for you all.

fyi, my control panel is still blank and i still can't start my computer using safe mode and whenever i start avg, my computer display will change to 800 X 600 pixels... had to change the setting back...

also everytime mbm scan my restore files, avg resident shield will detect show a total of 2529 records of infection in their list and a majority of them are the Win32/Heur virus and could be found in: "C:\System Volume Information\_restore{7DFE1C82-29EA-4619-AF23-2C0D63809822}\RP52\A0018553.exe" "Infected"

please note none that both avg and es online did not detect this virus only avg resident shield and onl detect it during scan from MBM.
