Hello gentlemen,

Same has happend to me...

Norton Internet Secureity 2003:
Intrution Detection (option) is locked in OFF mode
When “Turn On button pushed an alert notice pops.
“Failed to save setting. Please verify that your Windows account is not restricted.

I have followed this post and even downloaded extra programs to sweep for the problem. The system is fairly clean but the problem within Norton still persist.

All fixed. :mrgreen:
It was simple... no hacker, no virus and no bugs.
Norton disables itself during a particular update.
It then re-enables after the next update.
Don't ask me why Norton doesn't notify the user about this temp settings change...
The real problem is people updating to a point, then noticing the “Failed to save setting. Please verify that your Windows account is not restricted. message and assuming the worst.

You should get the latest updates for XP and IE (at least SP1). Check out the links below for more tips on keeping your system clean.
