Hi,
Please help me with this spyware infection - PokaPoka63 . Its been in the system for 5 days ( More than that perhaps but the effects started 5 days ago). I even asked other forums but received no reply. Please help me with this. I found a removal tool to remove it but it still comes back and moreover there are still pop-up ads. I have Lavasoft Ad-Aware Se Personal, Spybot Search & Destroy , Norton Antivirus and ZoneAlarm Standard with latest definitions files installed. Spybot and Ad-Aware do detect many files but dont manage to delete them even in safe mode and system startup. Also is Ewido needed as i have these software and wont it conflict with norton? And does Spyware Guard from Javacool conflict with them. Here is my HijackThis Log-

Please help soon as I work on the internet and have prevented this PokaPoka63 from calling home by restricting IE from accessing the net. I found out that it uses an invisible browser window to install but I need to run Yahoo Messenger Chat as My online Work depends on it.

Thanks,
aac99

A concise removal plan that complements ’s advice and is safe to follow now (years later).

Start by isolating the PC (physically disconnect or disable networking) so the malware cannot “call home.” If Yahoo! Messenger is essential for work, use a separate clean machine or a bootable rescue environment while cleaning this system.

Boot to Safe Mode (or Safe Mode with Networking only to download tools). Run the cleanup batch recommended first, then run an up-to-date on-demand scanner (Malwarebytes is a reliable, modern choice). After that, use an autorun/startup inspector to find and disable persistent startup items and services before rebooting — Autoruns from Microsoft Sysinternals is designed for this purpose and is safe when used carefully (disable rather than delete initially).

Look for remaining persistence: scheduled tasks, alternate browser helper objects, modified HOSTS file, and hidden/rootkit components. If components keep reappearing, run a rootkit scanner or a reputable rescue disk; after successful cleaning, delete old System Restore points (they can reintroduce malware) and create a fresh restore point.

About Ewido / SpywareGuard vs Norton: on-demand scanners (Ewido/Malwarebytes) are fine alongside Norton. Avoid running multiple real-time shields concurrently — disable one real-time component while troubleshooting to prevent conflicts. Back up important data (not executables), collect fresh HijackThis or diagnostic logs, and post results if the infection persists. If removal still fails or system instability continues, a repair install or clean reinstall is the safest route.

Hi and welcome to Daniweb :). Let's see what we can do.

==

Please download miekiemoes' LQfix batch here:

Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.
It may be best to to right click on the link and select 'Save As' and save it to your desk top.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please run LQfix.bat. When finished, restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log.
