Hi, well first right click your desktop. Then select arrange by, and assure that "Show desktop icons" is selected.

If it is, have HJT remove this (Well have it remove this anyways)

Then you look clean after that. if you still havent found a solution, post back and we will preform some routine maintence ;).

Apparently my description was lacking.

My icons are present so that's not the problem.

My problem is that the desktop background was replaced by an html file located at c:\Windows\warnhp.html. After cleaning the trojan off with various programs I manually deleted this file. Since is no file to display, the desktop background is blank. When right clicking on the desktop I am unable to open desktop properties - it behaves as if I am opening the properties of an html file. Additionally, when I go thru the Control Panel to acces "Display" properties, the Web tab is completely missing. I'm stumped at this point.

1. Download the SmitRem utility. but do not run it yet. Instructions and download link are here.

2. Reboot into Safe Mode.

3. Run SmitRem according to the instructions on the download page.

4. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Display -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop -> Web. Uncheck "Security Info" and/or "Desktop Uninstall" if present.

5. Restart your computer in normal mode. The tabs in your Desktop Properties window should now be restored, allowing you to reset your background.
