No single "best" antivirus fits every Windows 8 machine — choose a product that’s actively maintained, scores well in independent lab tests, and doesn’t slow your PC. Windows 8 includes Windows Defender (it replaced Microsoft Security Essentials on Win8) and provides a reasonable baseline; however Windows 8 / 8.1 are no longer supported by Microsoft, so upgrading to a supported OS is the safest long‑term step. (microsoft.com)

Use independent lab results (protection, performance, false‑positives) as the first filter, then validate on your own hardware with a trial. Recent AV‑TEST reports show multiple vendors — Kaspersky, Bitdefender, ESET, Norton and even Microsoft Defender — consistently scoring at the top in protection and performance, so pick the one whose tradeoffs you like. The differing experiences in this thread make sense: reported Avast 2013 problems, and had positive Avast experiences, while and prefer Kaspersky and Norton respectively. (av-test.org)

If Avast 2013 is slow or unstable on your machine, try this safe workflow:

  1. Back up important files.
  2. Update Windows if possible (some vendors require specific Windows updates).
  3. Uninstall the old AV cleanly using the vendor removal tool (don’t rely only on Control Panel). For Avast use Avast Clear; for Norton use the Norton Remove & Reinstall advanced “Remove only”; Kaspersky publishes a kavremover for stubborn cases. Reboot, then install the replacement trial and run a full scan. Monitor CPU/IO/RAM in Task Manager while testing. (avast.com)

Final note: because OS updates matter more than any single AV, the best long‑term recommendation is to move to a supported Windows release. If you must stay on Windows 8, keep your AV and signatures current, use on‑demand scanners for second opinions, and follow safe‑browsing practices. (learn.microsoft.com)

I don't understand why you posted like that but anyways i found this:

As far as I know that avast free antivirus is one of the best and could be the a good option especially for your windows 8. Well, there are many people preferring it for their PC, Laptop, etc.

Use Kaspersky

I prefer Norton for windows 8 it is fully compability to work with windows 8 and it also give full help to their user for protecting system from the virus and malware attacks by " Virus Removal Service " team.

Everyone has their preferences, and I can understand why they do, but Norton's is globally known as a resource hog.

I like Avast because it covers more bases than those that got only a slightly higher percentage than it.
