Well, my problem is the trojan nvctrl.exe, I dont remember the trojan name but its associated with the virus nvctrl.exe. At first I tried manually removing it, and managed to delete most of its associations like mssearch.exe but I couldnt manage to get rid of nvctrl.exe, infact I cant find it in the same folder anymore, or anywhere on my computer, but it still exists.

My anti-spyware cant get rid of it, and id rather not pay for other anti-spyware programs that can get rid of it, so a freind suggested hijackthis and I need help knowing what to get rid of.

That log looks a little "light on content". Were you running Windows in Safe Mode when you did the HijackThis scan? If so, please do another HJT scan while Windows is booted normally, and post that log.

By the way: "nvctrl.exe" is related to the Smitfraud/SpyAxe/SpyFalcon/etc. family of malware. More info and removal instructions can be found here:
http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal:_SpyAxe_Removal

Its short probably because every time I log on to windows I always try to close as many useless process's to reduce as much lag as I can. My computer is only decent soo~

Here, I have another log fresh from when I logged on windows with no process's closed:

Thanks- HijackThis needs to see all programs/processes running in order for it to fully report on them. The new log indicates that you do indeed have a Smitfraud infection, and that you may have a Qoologic infection as well.

Let's go after Smitfraud first- please do the following:

You will need to close/quit all web browser programs and disconnect from the Internet for much of the following, so you should print out these instructions or save them into a text file with Notepad.

Download smitRem.exe ©noahdfear, and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.
Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop (in Internet Explorer, right click on Panda ActiveScan link select "Copy Shortcut" then right click on your desktop and select "Paste Shortcut" or in FireFox right-click the link and select "Save Link As" and save it to your desktop).

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:

  1. Restart your computer
  2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Now scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Close HiJackThis.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.
Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.

  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
    • Enter your Country
    • Enter your State/Province
    • Enter your e-mail address and click send
    • Select either Home User or Company
    • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When the download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.
