My laptop will no longer allow me to open up web pages or im clients. It still says I'm connected but no pages will load. When I check my connection status it shows it is actively sending and recieving data.
When I go into system information and run net diagnostics my network adapters fail. The defaultIPgateway passes, the DHCPserver passes, the DNSserversearchorder passes, but the IPaddress itself fails, net diagnostics pings it 4 times and all 4 are lost.
In CDM ipconfig /all I have a valid ip address.I can successfully ping and successfully ping www.yahoo.com.
Also, when I'm trying to load a page on the internet before it just shows the page that says it can't find the server the status bar at the bottom shows (for example) when I only typed in www.google.com
I tried deleting and reinstalling IE in case it was corrupted.
I tried installing Firefox as well in case it was just IE that wouldn't work.
I tried restarting my system, repairing the internet connection, unplugging modem and router for about 10 minutes before plugging back in.
Ran (in normal and safe mode) Ad-Aware Se,nothing found
Ran (in normal and safe mode) Spybot S&D,nothing found
Ran winsockxpfix
Ran lspfix
Ran sfc scan
Cleared the cookies,cache,all offline files
Deleted all temp files from Administrator and other user accounts in safe mode
Checked all ip,dns, and dhcp information is accurate
Tried running ipconfig /flushdns
Tried running netsh Winsock reset
I'm completely at a loss, was working fine wednesday when I logged off and then thursday morning the modem was out and when I came home from work and the modem was back up I tried to log on and then this problem started.I have also tried connecting directly through the modem instead of the router and the same problem persists.Someone please help!!

Short diagnosis and focused checks based on the symptoms reported by and echoed by : when a machine can talk at the IP/ICMP level but browsers fail, HTTP(S) traffic is often being redirected, proxied, or blocked by something the pings don’t exercise. Common, high‑leverage targets that were not fully covered in the thread are the browser proxy settings, the hosts file, a local proxy/service listening on loopback, or an in‑OS network filter (LSP/driver) installed by security or third‑party software.

Quick isolation tests (run from an elevated command prompt):

nslookup example.com
tracert example.com
telnet example.com 80
netstat -ano | findstr /i "LISTEN :8080 :3128 :3129 127.0.0.1:80"
tasklist /FI "PID eq <pid_from_netstat>"

Interpretation notes: successful DNS (nslookup) + successful TCP connect to port 80/443 (telnet/connect) means the path is okay and the browser-level configuration (proxy/PAC/extension) is the likely blocker. If TCP connect fails while ping works, suspect a filtering device (router/ISP) or a packet/MTU problem.

Targeted remediation steps (ordered for quick wins):

  • Inspect browser/Windows proxy settings (Internet Options → Connections → LAN settings; Firefox Network Settings) and clear any proxy/PAC entries.
  • Open C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and verify no malicious redirects; back up before editing.
  • Use netstat/tasklist to find any local proxy process bound to loopback and disable/uninstall it if unwanted.
  • In Network Connections → adapter → Properties, temporarily disable non‑Microsoft components (web filters, monitoring drivers) to see if normal browsing returns.
  • Test the same laptop on a different network (phone hotspot) or boot a Linux live USB to separate OS issues from router/ISP problems.
  • If the issue persists after these checks, consider offline/rootkit scans (rescue media) or reinstalling the NIC driver / system restore.

Cautions: do not remove registry keys or drivers unless the owner/process is identified; keep backups. These steps narrow the failure layer quickly and point to either a local proxy/filter or an upstream device as the root cause.

hey i am also experiencing the same problem..i can connect to the server but cant open any pages..when i ping the ip i get reply from the server..but no upload or download happening..is this the result of any intrusion??
