OK -I've run Spybot and AdAware, and done the online virus scan at trendmicro.com. We also have Symantec virus protection that runs daily. I got slammed a while back - hijacked home page, tons of popups, etc., and I've cleaned most of it up but I cannot search from my IE address bar, and somtimes when I get a "page not found" error either freeesearch.com or flashlightsearch.com windows open up (plus I do get the random "Adult Love Connection" popups when I've got IE open but minimized). I had HJT remove "ZSearch" which may have helped with the freeesearch issue.

I suspect the R3 may be a problem, but I didn't want to delete it without checking here. The first time I ran HT I got some TV Media things, so I went into Add/Remove Programs and removed it (I'd done this before but it apparently returned), and then had HJT fix those files. In Add/Remove Programs there is one called "DealHelper" which I know I don't want, but I can't remove it - I get a message, "Installation log file not found!" HJT did get rid of some associated files, however.

I also ran Pest Patrol, which found several things that AdAware and Spybot did not (ClientMan, RedV, Adware.IEhelper, etc.) - but I've heard others talk about false positives with PP and since they want $40 to remove the pests, I'm not sure about it....

I have SpywareBlaster, as well as InstallSpy, now.

If this is a "clean" log, any ideas as to why I can't search from the IE address bar?

TIA!!

Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder or directly on the desktop & not directly on your hard drive). Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {447160CD-ECF5-4EA2-8A8A-1F70CA363F85} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msibkd.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [intdctrr] C:\WINDOWS\System32\idctup20.exe

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\idctup20.exe< file

Reboot normally.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the bold below into a new text file. Save it as URLRepair.reg (Change the 'Save As Type' to 'All Files'). Save it in C:\

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
"{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""

Locate it (in C:\) and double-click on it (launch it). You'll recieve a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer yes and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

crunchie, you are my hero!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
