Hello, forgive me if this has been solved already -- i did searches but did not see my specific dll mentioned.
I recently started getting the "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close." The error signature is:

The problems I am seeing include:
1) "There are no active mixer devices available..." when I try to adjust volume. (system sounds still work; cannot play music files)
2) I'm manually going to the Windows Update site and checking for latest updates (I have always had the automatic option on), but it just hangs on the "Checking for latest updates" page and the progress bar keeps going, but nothing is ever returned.
3) If I go and examine the services, many services that are configured to startup "automatically" are not started (including Windows Audio which I guess explains my active mixer message).

I use Trend Micro's PC-cillin Internet Security 2007 as my security suite, and scans (virus and spyware) does not turn up much except cookies, which I have told it to remove. I will try Ad-aware next...
