Question 2:
everytime i start Internet Explorer, a pop up from "" comes up. I have since downloaded and used Adware 6.0 but it still won't go away. Could someone help me get rid of it?

thanks in advance!

This thread shows a classic adware/toolbar cleanup: a startup entry pointing to a now-missing downloaded component produced the missing-DLL message, and a changed search/start behavior produced the persistent popup. handled it correctly by using Safe Mode to remove the offending folder and by running an uninstall utility for the adware; s confirmation that the problem went away matches that sequence and explains why Safe Mode was necessary (files and registry keys can be locked in normal mode).

Practical clarifications and extra steps not spelled out earlier:

  • Orphaned Run/RunDLL entries often live in several startup locations. A startup inspector (msconfig or a tool such as Autoruns) makes it easy to spot entries that reference files which no longer exist and safely disable them before deleting files.
  • The browser popup/redirect behavior usually comes from a modified homepage/search-assistant or a Browser Helper Object/toolbar. After removing the offending program, clear the Internet Explorer cache and the Downloaded Program Files folder, then re-scan with up-to-date anti-spyware and antivirus engines to catch leftovers.
  • The HijackThis approach used in the thread is appropriate: close all browser windows, re-scan, and fix only the clearly malicious or orphaned items. If unfamiliar with an entry, research it before removal.

Short troubleshooting checklist for the reported "invalid syntax" browser error:

  • Reset or restore Internet Explorer default settings and clear temporary internet files.
  • Remove unknown add-ons/toolbars from IE (Manage Add-ons) or via the installed programs list.
  • Repair IE (via Add/Remove Programs or the OS repair option) or create a fresh user profile if corruption persists.

Final notes: run a full, updated anti-malware sweep after manual cleanup, change any passwords used while the system was infected, and avoid sponsor-laden installs in the future. The steps taken by are the correct model for this class of infection and the follow-up housekeeping above will reduce recurrence.

Hi & welcome. Check this thread out http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread7370.html & also Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar =

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{00D6A7E7-4A97-456f-848A-3B75BF7554D7} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F904DDFF-52D0-5425-C1B7-91851453402F} - C:\PROGRA~1\DATADE~1\ace plan.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL] rundll32.exe "C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\bridge.dll",Load

Uninstall then reinstall messenger plus but do not install the 3rd party sponsor, which comes from LOP.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the bold below into a new text file. Save it as URLRepair.reg (Change the 'Save As Type' to 'All Files'). Save it in C:\

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
"{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""

Locate it (in C:\) and double-click on it (launch it). You'll recieve a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer yes and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Hey! thanks alot.

Reguarding my second problem... it hasn't gone away. Everytime i open up Internet Explorer, the still pops up. but now, on top of that... my main browser shows "invalid syntax error"
could you help me fix this please?

Please post another log making sure that you have Internet Explorer closed before scanning with hijackthis.

if it helps, i'll put up a new "hijack list"
