My 'puter is just acting a little "funny" - I did my best to interpret the log on my own - nothing stood out to me... Spybot did not locate any spyware...

It's just a little "glitchy-feeling" - not as smooth as usual. For instance, in Outlook when I view email messages, it takes a few seconds longer than usual when I switch to view a different message. Seems like it started happening after the most recent Windows Update. If I System Restore to a point before the update, it seems to operate more smoothly. I am really sensitive to the smooth operation of my machine and it just seems a little buggy even though spyware, adware and virus scans come up clean. I was hoping something would turn up in a HJT log. Any thoughts?

Hmm.. I'm not familiar with the most recent windows update so i don't know why it causes the laggyness. Some easy ways to increase computer speed though is to clean the temp, Manually clean out your C:\ drive of unwanted programs/files, and to run as few startup processes as possible.

An easy way to the clean the temp in with a porgram called crapcleaner. Here the download instructions.

Begin by downloading CCleaner, and specifically choosing the most recent version.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files". 9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Now, install the program. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\History

C:\Windows\Prefetch

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' tab. Inside, check the box labeled 'Custom Files and Folders'.

Next, after following all of these steps, you're ready to scan. Run scans in both the 'Cleaner' and 'Issues'. Note: It might take several scans in each to remove all of the junk.

Manually cleaning out your C:\ drive(Mostly program files and My Documents) is self explainatory.

To cut down on start up processes go the start menu and then run. Type "msconfig"(without the quotes) in to the box and hit enter. Then go to the start up tab and uncheck any boxes next to programs you don't use when you first turn on the computer.

Try the combonation of these and see if that helps with the problem. One thing i would check though is if you have norton as you firewall, make sure that the windows firewall is off. Or vice versa. Having two firewalls running at once can cause things like this to happen as well.
