Hi I just downloaded and ran High Jack This and I saved the log but I have no Idea what I am supposed to check for fixing after the scan is done. I don't want to delete something that is important for the running of my computer. Can someone please help me figure this out.

For context, ran HijackThis and saved a log but was unsure what to fix. HijackThis is a diagnostic tool that lists startup items, services, browser helpers and other settings. Using its "fix checked" option without confirming an entry can remove legitimate components and destabilize Windows, so volunteers normally examine the full log and system details before recommending removals.

Useful information to include when seeking help: the complete HijackThis log as plain text; the exact Windows version and service pack; browser and version; currently installed security software and last update date; a short list of symptoms (popups, redirects, slow boot, missing icons, etc.); and any recent software installs. Creating a System Restore point and exporting the registry prior to changes greatly reduces recovery risk.

Practical signs inside a HijackThis log that merit closer scrutiny: startup or Run entries that point to Temp or AppData folders; executables with random alpha-numeric names; duplicate or repeated Run entries; Browser Helper Objects (BHOs) or DLLs without a clear vendor; services that run from unexpected folders; Winlogon/userinit lines that do not point to standard files; and svchost.exe or other system names running from non-System32 paths. Legitimate entries frequently live under "C:\Program Files" or "C:\Windows\System32" and show vendor information in file properties.

A safe removal workflow used by experienced responders: research the exact filename and full path online first; quarantine a suspicious file by renaming or moving it and then reboot to check for problems; back up the registry before editing startup keys; perform removals from Safe Mode when possible. As suggested, posting the full log plus clear symptom details enables targeted, low-risk advice from helpers.

A few things you might want to do if you haven't already while you are waiting on someone who knows a lot more than me....lol!! You could download, update, and scan with Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy and see if they find anything. Also, if you're having a particular problem with your pc, it would help others to help you if you describe what your problem is, and post your hijackthis log for someone to look over. Just a few ideas while you are waiting for some of the experts here to reply to your post. :)

BTW...you can find links for Adaware and Spybot S&D in a lot of the other posts. :)
