is there a way to partition a hard drive without the need to format the disk? i have heard pc have one 'partition magic' but i cant find one for osx.cheers

I have not found one for the Mac OS X, and to be honest, do not trust partition magic on Windoze either. I feel that anything that works the filesystem at this level is just an accident waiting to happen.

There are a couple for OS X. They've been around for 6 months or more.
However, I agree with kc0arf. I don't trust any 3rd party app to resize/create my partitions on the fly.
If you DO use one of these, for god's sakes, make a good back up of your data first!!!!!!!!!!
