Hi there.
I am new to the forum so hope someone out there can help me.

I have just purchased a smartdisk 160GB external hard drive for my G5 but when i try to connect it via Firewire, the drive does not mount onto the desk top and i cannot see it.
however, if i connect via USB i can see it fine. When I go into system profiler, the G5 has detected a Firewire device but i get no more information and i can't see the disk to use it.

Does anyone have any suggestions. The smartdisk website is rubbish and had nothing to help me at all!!!

Heres hoping you all can.
Thanks
Lisa

Couple of things to try..

1) Try a different firewire port on the Mac? Or do you only have one?

2) Try a different firewire cable. It could be the one you have is crap/broken.

3) Find a friend with a Mac and try plugging it into their firewire port.

Basically you want to eliminate a cable problem, a firewire controller/port problem with the drive, and a firewire port problem on your Mac.
