The address for "Write your own" didn't work in my browser. I don't know if it was abbreviated for some reason or what? Here's the link I found for it:

Write Your Own

Alcides.

Edit: It turns out that it was abbreviated by the code mangler for display. I put the link ith text, instead of using the address itself.

You look like you're doing okay. Are you still having trouble?

Alcides.

Alcides 1 Junior Poster in Training

Yes, that sounds right, but just to clarify. If you quote the whole echo statement with ', then you can use " freely, but must use \' to get the ' to work. And vice versa. Make sense? I noticed you had several ' in the echo which signaled an end of the echo before you were done. \" is not necessary if you use ' on the outside and \' is not necessary if you use " on the outside.

Well, I'm named after my pops, Alcides Sr. The Fresh came when I was getting one of those http://(username).i.am aka http://i.am/(username) accounts. So, naturally I chose Fresh to be my username and began using FreshAlcides ever since.

Alcides (aka FunkyFreshDopeAlcides or FreshAlcides, for short).

I think my debugger is laughing at me. I almost posted for advice in the C Forum, but looked at my book again to quote from it, then I noticed some things that I was doing. Duh! Declare the array as a pointer if you want to return it from a function. I was getting furious at that "Returning local variable address or temporary" warning from VC6. All the time it was mocking me.

Ah well. I'm still here working on this freaking application that has absolutely no use, but I am determined to finish it just because I started it. :lol: Well, folks. To another round of a new mix I've dubbed, "Debug THIS!"

I couldn't find the "edit" button, so I'm adding a reply. Here is the code I have above my opening html tag.

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd" [
  <!ENTITY % html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
    %html;
	<!ENTITY % ft7777 SYSTEM "http://www.alcides.net/newsite/dtd/ft7777.dtd">
    %ft7777;
]>

In IE it shows a "]>" at the top. But in Firefox, it seems to be okay. I'm thinking that IE has a stricter parser so I'm trying to rely on that more than Firfox's. Not to mention a lot of people still use IE. Thanks again.

I've been having trouble using XHTML as the main DTD and adding my own as a secondary. I've googled and find plenty of discussions or articles about XML or XHTML, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance.

- GREEZY CHICKEN TACOS -

Ingredients (makes 5 Greezy Tacos):

1 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast
1 Head of Lettuce
1 Tomato
1/2 Cup of ShreddedSharp Cheddar Cheese
1/4 Cup Corn Oil
5 Corn Torillas (add two if you never made this before to practice with)

Procedure:

1. Chop the tomatoes and rip up the lettuce.

2. Bring water to boil and toss in the Chicken Breast and leave there for about 20-30 minutes.

When Chicken Breast is done, rip it into little pieces, but not crumbs.

3. Put the corn oil in a frying pan while you warm up the tortillas in the microwave or on the stove.

4. Put the shreds of Chicken Breast into the warmed torilla and fold like a regular taco. Then place into the GREEZE. Let it sit for about 20 seconds and roll it on the other side. Leave for another 20 seconds. Then, flip twice more for 20 seconds each.

5. Take out the GREEZY TACO and fill with the lettuce, tomatoes and cheese.

6. Follow steps 4 and 5 untill all tacos have been prepared.

7. Add a green jalapeno for extra flavor.

8. Might want to let the GREEZE drip out of the taco first. :)

My dream is to create something that will protect electronic devices from external surges of electricy and magnetism. Then, I would load up as much information as possible in there and throw it in the water with the combination to the lock written on the container so that whoever finds it will be able to open it and not have to start from scratch.

PHP runs on the server rather than on the client's machine and then delivers the polished product (web code) to the client for viewing. Unlike Java which runs on your machine, PHP is done before anything hits your machine. I think the term is Server-Side, but I'm just throwing that phrase out there. I think it's like ASP or something. It's very useful, though if you want to keep stuff DYNAMIC. Also, as a language, it's pretty cool just the way it works.

I'm not really familiar with PHP, but I imagine the code would look something like this:

<!-- All your header stuff -->

<?php
if ($content){
  require("$content");
} else {
  require('defaultcontent'); // replace defaultcontent with whatever file.
}
?>

<!-- All your footer stuff -->

The above could be used for the index page. The following would be used for the links.

<a "href=www.domain.com/index.php?content=aboutme.con">About Me.</a>

Anyone else have any feedback on this. I just came up with this on the fly from the little I do know about PHP. I didn't test this.

I don't think you need to be a mathematician to be a great programmer. The same way a good writer must formulate his sentences and grammar, so too should you be good at formulating the way your program is going to work. You don't just write code from top to bottom. You figure out what you want it to do, map it out, then code it. The map acts as a guide to your programming and if you get stuck or bored with a particular aspect of your program you can start working on a different aspect or even add some more stuff to the map.

All in all, a great programmer is a persion with vision and can manifest that vision into a program. Math does help, though. Usually the hard math stuff is summed up into algorthms that you can borrow and explore to create your own. Not a very difficult arena, unless you're trying to create a game that is going to control a real machine while you play. :)

If you don't know what system they use, you can usually find out at the bottom of the screen. A lot of my friends make their own boards so, if that is the case with your friend's board, you might just want to ask him/her.

Edit: Oh yeah. There's usually a link to the system website at the bottom, too. If not a link than try to google the system name for an address. There should be documentation on the site.

I'm tired, but can't sleep. I want to read the rest of my book, but I'm angry after just reading the first few pages. I have a cooked crab sitting on the kitchen table waiting for me to eat it. Why are these faces looking at me like that? What? You got a problem?!?! Thought so. So, I think I could use some tea. Oh man. I left my coffee cup in my back pack. It probably got all over that book I want to read. MAN! Those faces are still looking at me. Why the heck did I put my speakers so close to my chair? They are loud. I guess I could turn the stereo down. That's too much to program into my head right now. Stop typing. Lift left hand. Move left hand towards mixer. Place hand on channel one level control. Ahhh. Whatever. Am I bored? I must be.

Anyone seen that commercial where the lady is like, "Yeah. He was telling another one of his stories..." The scene flashes to a guy talking to some other guy in monotone and with pause. Then, the guy being talked to just drops over. Poor thing. I hope I don't have that effect on you guys. Hmmm.... Okay. I think I should really get back to work now. Blah.

This has been pretty inactive for a couple of weeks, but here I go...

The hardest thing I've written was not really hard, but tedious. In some of my spare time I work with numbers for different reasons and thought it would be convenient to write something to the effect of a spreadsheet only not a spreadsheet. There are math rules and extra rules. I think I have it around somewhere. I hardly use it like I used to.

Example... If I collect the data of select stars and planets and then want to have a list of furthest from and closest to certain positions or have them listed by apparent magnitude and apparent luminosity side by side. Sometimes I just want to calculate how many hours my boss is allotted to schedule me and my coworkers. The thing is that I wanted one program where I create a function I want to perfom and set rules for its presentation and come back to it whenever I want. Like sometimes I want to add extra variables like date or position or whatever the case may require. Anyway. I had most of the trouble with the flow chart because of the complexity I wanted and the writing was a little tricky cause I typo a lot. Damn it! :) Anyway.

That was the hardest one done. Right now I'm working on a toy encryption program that creates keys and such and such. I'm still working out the general …

Alcides 1 Junior Poster in Training

Ummm... Howdy. I'm not employed in a computer field (not that I think it matters). I code for my own convenience. I write, draw, read, and make music on my puter. I live in San Francisco where the city shows me love and here I hope to stay until the ocean swallows us up. Woohoo. I need to learn how to surf. Anyway. Thanks for having me.
