Only 9 minutes is actually playing for me.

I just changed the viewer that plays the video so try again. Also note that after you start playing it - wait for 15 seconds then drag the circle on the bar back to the very beginning. That should act as a buffer until I pay for the upgraded software.

cwarn23 387 Occupation: Genius Team Colleague Featured Poster

How long is the video suppose to be?

The video is meant to be around 30 minutes. Also I am going to try another flv player because the current one does only live streaming and doesn't do playback. Also the current one is slow at processing as I calculated the speed to be about 0.08kbps for the video.

I have been using web browser for many years now (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Crome, Safari) and with heavy use of the internet, I have found that all of those browsers except Opera crash after the first few hours of having 20 tabs open with them constantly opening and closing. I know that Internet Explorer was based on Mosaic just like Firefox and possibly Safari. Then Crome was based on Safari. So I'm asking is it possible that a memory leek in mosaic has caused devastating side effects for nearly all browsers based on mosaic code. The memory leek I am talking about is one for when thousands of web pages are stored in the browsers memory index and mosaic wasn't designed for the fast computers we have today as the faster hardware theoretically makes it possible for more to be stored in the memory when there is a limitation in the mosaic software that prevents it from using the full ability of todays hardware. And yes the browser companies try to patch that up but don't do a good job of it as all except Opera have failed to alter the real bug in mosaic and instead they just wrote additional lines to try and go around the code. This topic is for discussion on this mosaic bug as it has nasty effects on todays browsers and only a software company reprogramming the memory core from scratch could truly solve this one.
For the time being, Opera is …

I disagree, I never even notice those things.

@ Dani - I like the overall layout of the site. It has one of the cleaner, nicer looking interfaces I've seen on a forum without being overly complex.

If different people have different opinions then why not let the user have a section in their user panel where they can enable/disable features like this and perhaps for sponsored users to have the option of setting a custom theme. Just a thought but not sure how practical it is.

Well for those with a slow internet connection every 10 seconds the video will pause and buffer then continue. I hate how that happens but I guess there is no way around it.

Cool, discovered that the player has some impressive documentation at http://developer.longtailvideo.com/trac/wiki/FlashVars

Now that I have my player working, could anyone reading this review the quality of my first video tutorial at http://syntax.cwarn23.info/media/index.html

cwarn23 387 Occupation: Genius Team Colleague Featured Poster

I just installed the JW Player but at the moment there is no buffer. Is it possible to set a buffer? My link is http://www.syntax.cwarn23.info/media/index.html

cwarn23 387 Occupation: Genius Team Colleague Featured Poster

If you can't get anything else to work, try another player.

Another I have tried is http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-flv-player/.

It worked, but there was something about it I didn't like (can't remember what it was though).

Wow, at first sight I like that one better. And it doesn't contain a "feature" the other flv player has. That is it's possible to skip a few minutes of the video instead of being redirected to the start. Will start to set it up but that is what I saw on the demo.

I did some browsing on the net and found that Flash10 does not work with Opera10. So is there some way I can downgrade to Flash9 via download?

cwarn23 387 Occupation: Genius Team Colleague Featured Poster

Does that page take longer than a minute to load for you? Because when I view it, I click the play button like I did on my site and it keeps on loading loading and loading unlike in Internet Explorer where there is at least a visual during the loading process. And in IE there is only a 16 second loading process where as in Opera there is 4 minutes and counting... It seems as if the browser is trying to download the whole movie before displaying it. BTW, did you use version 10 of Opera? Also I tried upgrading to the latest version of Flash but that didn't work. Now I have dug into a really deep hole. Any chance of finding a way to dig out?

And also methods to Preventing multiple Login, I mean Preventing account fraud
The Login, Protect page.

I don't get what you are talking about there?
As for the flash plugin, I checked what plugins were installed and I found "Shockwave Flash" and "Shockwave for Director" as well as multiple occurrences of the QuickTime plugin. As for changing browsers - I've found that Opera is the only browser which doesn't crash on me. Every other browser including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Crome and Safari crash on me about every 4 or 5 hours. Some of them even more frequently. Why? Because as I am typing this message I have 19 pages open and is usually kept around that number with tabs constantly closed and new ones constantly opened. So for that kind of web browsing only Opera can do the job without crashing as Opera only crashes about once or twice a month if I don't clear the cache. Also I'm using Opera 10 and so does anybody know why Opera 10 won't view this script. I checked miniclip and their flash games have the same play button my script has meaning the browser Opera puts it there. However Opera can play the flash games and buffered movies at miniclip. So if Opera can play the games and movies at miniclip why won't Opera play my movies using the flv player. Is it as simple as a html code not being used properly or what should I do. Below is …

WTF. I try my page in Opera and it doesn't work. Says I need a plugin or something although it displays this giant play button. I try in Internet Explorer and it works perfectly. Looks like I will have to Macgyver myself a video cms but the only problem is displaying/streaming the video. The best method I can think of is by using Java but does anybody know of tutorials or simple open source scripts that will stream the videos from preferably the file format wmv using Java. This includes pausing the video, playing the video and viewing in full screen. Hope there is a good java tutorial for such script. Thanks.

Another tutorial to write about. This problem can be caused by using a text editor that adds invisible junk code at the beginning of the text file. First replace your code with the following:

<?php session_start();
ob_start(); ?>

Then save it and reopen in windows notepad. Yer that old fashion program. After that click just before the first p on line 1 and press backspace 10 times. Then type back in the <? symbols and click save. After that upload to your server and see if it works.

Btw, could you tell me what text editor your using so I can download a copy to replicate the problem.

Try Debut Video Capture Software. It was free and did more than I expected it too.

In the tutorials, make sure you are using proper practices. I don't want to watch them and then see stuff that is wrong.

I just installed Debut Video Capture and although it works great it won't detect my microphone. Is there something I am missing because attached is the options I used and I tried every combination. I can see that if this software can recognize my microphone it will truly be the best but is useless without audio. Also windows is able to recognise my microphone because when I speak into the microphone I can hear myself in the speakers so it must be just something with the program that I do not yet understand. Please help me to make this program recognize my microphone. Thanks.

Ok then what about the other forum I was talking about for things like CAD and 3D modeling. Are those things also meant to go into the "Web design->Graphics and Multimedia" forum? Just a suggestion as I haven't worked out what places (if any) those posts belong.

I have gotten soooo many mixed opinions lately, and I was wondering what you guys thought of the current style. Please be brutally honest. I'm not talking about "It's missing a link in a convenient place" or little functional things that can easily be changed/added/removed. I'm talking about the color scheme, the main navigation, the aesthetics, if it's pleasing to the eye to look at for a long time, etc.

My opinion on the colors and style is that the colors are perfect but the design is not. The only changes I would make is have the corners not as rounded in some places but still rounded and less padding. Also in the reply/pm post field, I would make the width 100% of the space so that it is a variable width using percentage instead of a fixed width. Other than that daniweb is perfect in my opinion.

@cwarn23 are you sure you do not have any messages in Sent Items?
Whenever you send personal message if check box bellow post editing area is left checked you get copy stored in your Sent Items.

THANKS! That's where they are hidden. Before they used to be in the one folder (inbox I think) but something must have changed during the upgrade to move all the messages to the sent box because even messages that I didn't send are in my sent box. Thanks for that info as now they are no-longer lost.

I'm sure I have more than 2 pm's because a few days ago I had 92 pm's then I exported 50 to a text file and deleted the 50 pm's using the same selection as the selection that I exported. Then a after deleting those pm's I could browse the 42 pm's and now the others have like disappeared even though the number is still there with a orange bar going half way towards my limit. So I am sure that the 43 pm's are meant to be there but are hiding somewhere where I cannot retrieve them. (check my pm limit if your not sure). I wish there was a way to save all of those pm's saying thanks etc but now they have disappeared and looks like in future I will need to save them on a monthly basis. So please check my account limit and/or even try logging into my account to see what is happening.

It would be part of Basic in the poll.

So visual basic uses the Basic language. The same language Microsoft wrote their first dos operating system in. Wow. Never realized the history behind that! I guess Microsoft was a bit slack at writing a programming interface in the early 1990's. Instead judging by what you say, Microsoft just gave the user a copy of the tools Microsoft used. Very interesting though. Before reading your post I thought Basic was done on a teletype (i think) machine with punch cards to make slots in paper. Didn't realize that Basic had been imported as a digital language.

If you enter DaniWeb from another site and you're not logged in, you get a little popup window about our community asking you to register. There are four ways to close out of it:

Hit Escape
Click the bold close link in the top right
Click on the grey area anywhere outside the popup
Click the white area inside the popup

Basically, any interaction you have with it other than clicking the register link closes out of it. It's been like this since the day it was put up.

I read somewhere but I can't find it again that when it was first put up daniweb then received around 1000 members per day. And it was later discovered that the reason why so many signed up is because they thought that was the only way to close the box when in fact you had to click the gray area. I understand that has all been changed now but this seems to be the same situation with the message for voting on your own posts. So perhaps making sure that all full screen messages that grey out the rest of the browser should at least have a close button to help the user easily find a way to close it.

Changing from php4 to php5 or from php5 to php4 will make a big compatibility difference for mysql as from my understanding the syntax is very different (Only 70% sure). If you are using php5 to connect to a database the following is what the connection code should look like:

<?php
mysql_connect('localhost','user','password');
mysql_select_db('my_database_name');

If however you are using php4 I am not sure exactly how to do it.
Hope that code helps though as using the core code is better than using a class.
Also, you should be able to get you php version with the following code:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

If you tried nav33n's script and got that error first I would suggest to make sure the two email addresses in his code are not the same and are valid email addresses. If the problem continues then try contacting your web host as their SMTP server may need configuring. Also include in the email to your web host nav33n's code but with the real email addresses which do not match.

There is no other server. Only one domain am having and in that control panel I have added all these along with my PHP coding files.

I have developed coding files using PHP 4.3 version but the server PHP version is 5.2.10. Is this will be a concern also?

I thought you meant you had 2 servers and you wanted to retrieve mysql data from sever 1 to server 2. If it is just the one server then make your host name "localhost" and you should be able to delete all of those remote hosts you added.

cwarn23 387 Occupation: Genius Team Colleague Featured Poster

And so xxxx.com is the domain that your above script is hosted on? What is the other primary domain for the other server?

cwarn23 387 Occupation: Genius Team Colleague Featured Poster

xxxx.com.% and also %.xxxx.com

That is meant to be
xxxx.com and also %.xxxx.com
Then replace xxxx.com with your domain name or is that your domain name?
If you could, post the domain your script is at the the domain your sql server is at (mark which is which) and I can give you the appropriate hostname for mysql_connect() and the exact strings to enter into remote sql.
