I found the solution for this. It is a long post but it is worth the wait. It only took patience in my case and listening to the sound of the hard disk to fix everything. You need to get on the phone with Dell and clearly request the machine to be sent back for warranty repair. If that doesn't work and you don't get an Return Merchandise Authorization, let us know!

I accidentally waited for about 30 minutes with the laptop turned on and it healed itself. My laptop is Windows Vista SP2 and had some disk problems lately.
