Yes, I do have myspace. But that shouldn't be a stereotype, just because I have it. =/
If anything, it should be a positive thing, because I don't waste my time doing those types of things here.

That's the problem with stereotypes :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

And again, none of that implies to me. So how am I not being 'professional?'

To rephrase what tgreer says, if it doesn't apply to you, don't apply it to yourself. Whether it applies to you or not, what I was talking about extends beyond spelling as well. Behavior and manner of members is also a factor in how the sight is perceived. I'd like to help it be a clean, professional, helpful, and efficient place. There's lots of other sites for random distractions or hanging out.

And you are a "MySpace kid". I seem to recall you mentioning the site and supporting it various times. It's not necessarily a bad thing, and you don't seem to be one of the stereotypical MySpace users (that's a compliment, btw), but you do come from a MySpace background (bad way to put it, but hopefully you get the idea).

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Here's a screenshot of it freezing for me. While this has still only happened 3 times, I do get about 15 second load times at full CPU usage on about 1/2 of my page loads. It's probably just a small bug somewhere, but I can live with it for a few days :P

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

It's more like you aren't even trying to match the professional appearance that Daniweb strives for. While many people, professionals included, to take to using common abbreviations, spelling as a whole should be correct. An abbreviation and a [sometimes deliberate] typo are two drastically different things, and they give off very different impressions.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Now that I've been going around a little bit, I think I'll get used to it. I noticed that the "Posts since last visit" is gone, leaving "Today's posts" at the bottom of each category. I prefer using the former, but I'll admit that I don't use it that often anyways.

And the load time is still pretty slow. I can't scroll till it finishes, and I've had Firefox give me warnings twice that a script was not completing. I'm guessing the two are related, but I don't know which script or where in it.

And Chaky, if I didn't have an adblocker, I'd be hating you right now... or handing out -rep :icon_rolleyes: j/k

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Then don't use it. Glad to have helped. :P

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

I'm pretty sure as well that this was what she was talking about. I'm not particularly pleased with it so far. The navigation is huge (the drop down menus don't even all fit on my screen), and the header content is as well (I had to scroll nearly a screen full just to see the thread). Also, the text in the quick reply is a lot smaller. And for some reason, page loads have become quite CPU intensive...

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Not necessarily. I mean, sure theres tons of immature members, but can they really be stopped? Theres nothing that anyone can do to stop immature people from registering here (or I'm sure it would have already been implemented).

True, they can't be stopped. But if they're not interested, they'll leave. Or they'll stir up trouble and be forced to leave.

whoa, whats up with the website change? It looks cool, but the words are really small now..

Heh, time for a new thread :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Maybe it would be best to combine geeks lounge and coffee house into one board just for oof topic stuff.

That makes no sense. GL is a subset of CH, and it's split very logically. The idea of splitting the truely random threads from serious discussion threads is interesting though.

I haven't seen any of this 'myspace' crowd that you talk about.. perhaps members are getting younger and younger.. but thats no reason to complain..

Younger and younger correlates to less mature, easier to distract, and less emphasis on appearance. I would assume that those largely contradict the image that Dani has been putting together over the years.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Hmm.. perhaps it would be easier to just kill millions of people when the population gets to large? lol..

While you obviously meant that as a joke, the existance of a system to weed out portions of the population who do not contribute to society have been considered through various fictional pieces. Were it to become a problem such systems might actually be implemented. As seen in China, attempts to curb population growth by limiting our reproduction do not always work.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Food supply's not a problem yet that I know of, but it's bound to happen. As we increase population, we have to increase the area dedicated to living space and cities, which in turn minimizes the area used in crop production. Not to mention, the crops have to increase to be able to supply the population growth as well. And with organic foodstuffs becoming a fad, there's also a bit of space that's not having the same productivity growth.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Obviously we're faced with a changing demographic. In terms of the success of the forum as a business, that might not be a bad thing (this is the social networking crowd, after all). But if the goal is to be a top-notch technical site for working developers, then we're heading in the wrong direction. It's like turning a university into a shopping mall.

Quoted for truth.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Currently, there's little reason to bother, but with our current trends of population and food supply, those places will become handy at some point in the not-too-distant future I'd guess.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Well if we could travel at 'warp speed' it would only be as fast as when the enterpruise is cruising (like the old windows screensaver with the stars going past) IT would still take us a long time.

With stars being light-years apart and flying by them in a matter of seconds, I think we'd get there fast enough...

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

There isn't exactly a whole lot there to bother optimizing. And be sure that the code you're working on is worth optimizing. Most of the time people try to optimize their code, they end up worrying about details that hardly affect the software's performance.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Yes, the day after Christmas. My car was totalled. :'(

Ever been in court?

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

tuh, both places are way too cold.. and have many uninhabited places

fixed :icon_wink:
We could probably inhabit any area we want. Even Mars or the Moon, if it was remotely affordable.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Out of curiosity, could your printing code have an off-by-one error to print the same data for the last char in one row and the first in another?

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

http://www.yui-net.com/

My favorite is definitely "Good-Bye Days" from that album.

I tried to listen to the samples, but they seem to be for IE only... :'(

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

oh, wow... you've had a good week :P

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Since all our arguments are going everywhere and taking over everything, I propose that we keep our griping, whining, complaining, and whatever else rep related to this thread. And then we can continue hijacking everything else in our normal way...

And now all the rep I've actually deserved (good and bad) is almost disappeared... :'( (I can understand the VT one, but everything above it makes me laugh :D)

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

But you can't say that Rashakil hasn't voluntarily pushed out personal attacks on him. That would be absurd! -In almost every thread, he says something judgmental about someone's post, particularly Josh's. ... Rashakil indeed started the name calling and personal attacks in this thread for absolutely no reason. It seems like everytime Josh says something, he bashes every word!

Hm... just looking through his posts rather quickly (I might have missed something), I see some witty phrasing and contradictions but no direct personal attacks. And if someone is posting arguments with holed or undefined regions, there's nothing wrong with pointing that out.

I'm not trying to take sides, but in all seriousness.... look at Rashakil's profile and tell me that he doesn't come off as a mean person. =/

He comes off as an entertaining person. On some forums, they're called trolls (though his posts are usually more intellectual than a troll), but I find it quite funny. I'd do the same if I had the wit and knowledge to back it up. The world needs less political correctness.

High cost of living = high value
High land area = low value

High living causes higher "value," yes. Higher area does not have an affect on value, it's the contents of the area that affect value. NYC is huge and has a high value. Other areas don't have similar contents, and their value is thusly much less. Comparing the US and the UK as a whole is ridiculous. The US being [very] roughly 36 times the size of the UK, it has a lot more [relatively] little developed areas which have lower value. Hence national average value will be less.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Cost of living is always higher in cities. Why? Because there's money in cities. When money is more easy to come by, it's value decreases and costs increase. You go somewhere with less money, or to a relatively poor area, and the cost of living drops. Land value follows this trend for the same reasons. That's why a 2 bedroom rambler here in the city goes for $400k+ and a 4 bedroom place a couple hours away with a small acreage will go for $300k

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

haha.. Well I am assuming that it was probably you that gave me that bad rep since you are acting so defensive. And I do have to say that yes, you are a dumbass/retard.

Rashakil doesn't seem to care about rep one way or the other. I doubt it was him.

And to say: "Som forums would ban you 4 this " makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Doesn't look like the way he types.

Your post that I made fun of was completely stupid, and destroyed a thread that people had been thinking seriously about.

He posed a hypothetical and hyperbolic example. You took the hyperbole way to seriously...

You have probably made more enemies than friends on Daniweb.

That may be, but not everyone makes it a goal to be friends with everyone else.

I know for a fact that you were an ass to Christina, and many other people.. Especially newbies. I could probably make a thread titled 'People who HATE Rashakil Fol', and it would be one of the top threads in a matter of minutes.

We all act like asses sometimes. Get used to it, that's how life works. You'll see plenty of it outside of your sheltered safe areas. And please don't promote a herd mentality for hate posting. We get enough spam as it is.

My point: Either quit behaving like a childish ass, or LEAVE. We don't want you here if you are going to continue acting the …

b/c theres more land in the U.S. than there is the UK

Your reasoning is, well, wrong. I sincerely doubt a correlation between land area and cost of living.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

funky, i love crossing the border :D

and yeah nursers don't get paid alot.

It's midwife's we're definitly short on. And probably doctors, they all get fired to "cut costs". This is NHS speaking of course

£20 an hour? shikes. Not sure what ours are on

Of course, just doing a currency conversion doesn't account for differences in cost of living :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Think of it as a test to see how much you really want to be a nurse :icon_wink: Good luck though :)

I think the thumb has the Ubuntu logo in the top-left corner, but it's very difficult to make out. And for gaming, I seem to recall there being a distro that was very WINE-centric (e.g. to help with gaming) but I can't remember what it was called...

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

I'm not that petty, and I believe that any rep I give should have meaning to the community. I'd just make fun of you through PM, or in the case of exceptionally entertaining comments, publicly.

publicly is definitely better, share the entertainment with the rest of us :icon_biggrin:

Having read a couple off your website, I'd go for the latter :icon_wink:

haha, awesome. Didn't think anyone would know of it :P

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

You brits have such a complicated sounding system... I can't understand a thing except that you've got a ton of specific names for specific programs, no idea what level they are... :icon_redface:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Interesting. I'm kinda like that with rap I guess (not my style at all), but I don't mind country. Just not my genre of choice :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

I just had dim sum, which for some people is exotic. I eat it enough that it isn't through (but man, do I love fung zau)

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

I'd think that if you kept a simple format, it wouldn't be that much more work. I could easily be wrong though, last time I did something like this was in high school like 5 years ago...

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Also, there's the codes for them :icon_$simleyname: such as :icon_wink: is :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Is it just me or has there being a real increase in the rep activity recently? ;-)

What with it being the talk of the town, yeah but that's to be expected.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Ah, I didn't know where the codes where... tricky underscores... :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Any plans for school or major yet?

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

I did answer yours. You asked if a word could be made, I said yes. You didn't ask what it was, and I assumed my answer would have reflected that. But if you insist, you can make the phrase "one word" out of "new door." God, that one's so old, I'd forgotten it.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Yes. I don't know what it is.

What is the average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow? (Yes, I expect an answer.)

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Heh, I moved a whopping 15 miles from my parents, but that was even far enough. 'Course the traffic around here makes it seem farther :P

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

I'm not very familiar with the .NET libraries, but it looks like OpenFile returns a Stream, so whatever has the method ReadFileLine should take the stream and do whatever is involved in reading a line.

Btw, please use [code] and [/code] tags when you post code, it preserves indentation and doesnt insert smileys. Makes it easier for the rest of us to read your code :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

You might consider asking in the Visual Studio section of the MSDN forums. If it's doable, someone there's gotta know how :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

If you're reading in from a file, you can write an input method which expects the data to be formatted a certain way, and then parse it yourself by just reading in pieces at a time, as you need them.

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Why is my favorite smiley, made from a : and a D, now this nasty :D?

At least from the advanced reply page you can still use the old ones :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

Look closely, actually both the signatures convey the same thing -- no wonder both of us got INTP (or was it JNTP?)

Hadn't noticed the two before, but they're both pretty good. Oh, and it'd be INTP, J is for the last one (e.g. I'm INTJ)

[edit:] back on topic: might it be possible to either have some code shortcuts for all of the smileys or have the drop menu appear in the quick reply box? That way I could keep using my favorites from the old set too :icon_wink:

Infarction 503 Posting Virtuoso

I love almost all genres of music, except for country.

Just curious, why not country?
