a grid control is a data grid that you manually add to your form. This grid will be loaded with data and can be used as a report medium. There are a few you can choose from depending on your needs.
a Custom control is a control that you create yourself by using ActiveX coding. Any OCX that you see in an application is a custom control. Most of your data grids is custom controls, made from text boxes etc.
