So it seems that an Internet Explorer zero day vulnerability allowed the back door to be opened that resulted in the [URL="http://www.daniweb.com/news/story252590.html"]hack attack on Google[/URL] and many others that has received such publicity this week. According to [URL="http://siblog.mcafee.com/cto/operation-%E2%80%9Caurora%E2%80%9D-hit-google-others/"]McAfee[/URL] it has identified an Internet Explorer vulnerability as being one of the attack vectors but the security vendor also warns that targeted attacks such as this often use "a cocktail of zero-day vulnerabilities combined with sophisticated social engineering scenarios" so it is possible, likely even, that other as yet unidentified attack vectors were also involved. However, McAfee dismisses some early reports which …

When it comes to web browsers, my general rule of thumb is that the latest version is usually the most secure and this is certainly the case with Internet Explorer. However, when I started using Internet Explorer 11 on my new Windows 8.1 Pro laptop I soon discovered that latest doesn't always mean greatest in terms of usability. If you have read my "[How to return the resize buttons to Google Chrome](http://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/microsoft-windows/windows-vista-and-windows-7-8/tutorials/470978/windows-8-how-to-get-your-google-chrome-resize-buttons-back)" tutorial, you will appreciate that Windows 8 doesn't always give you the UI experience that you are expecting, or that you want. Such was the case when I …

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and relatively inexperienced at web publishing as well. I'm currently administering the following website: [url]http://latmont.org/[/url] I've set up the website to work with an external CSS style sheet that is linked from the header in each web page. The style sheet was created by someone else with with proper accredition duly provided. I simply adapted it to work with my own graphics and layout needs. I've provided the CSS code below. When viewed from IE7 or IE8, the pages look as they should. In FireFox, none of the CSS is applied whatsoever. I …

I use firefox and haven't used IE since I got my computer and downloaded Firefox on to it. Lately IE has been randomly opening multiple windows with multiple tabs in them. I've run Malwarebytes twice and it hasn't come up with anything and I even put my computer in safe mode and ran it and still nothing. Also, an error message keeps popping up that says something about the host process not working, but I don't know if that has anything to do with the issue.

Another day, another IE flaw! Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the Internet Explorer water (mainly as Microsoft told you it was after [URL="http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS10-002.mspx"]releasing[/URL] yet another [URL="http://www.itwire.com/content/view/24364/1231/"]patch[/URL] to fix yet another vulnerability) comes the news that actually, would you believe it, but Internet Explorer still isn't safe. According to Jorge Luis Alvarez Medina, a security consultant at Core Security Technologies, who will reveal all at the Washington Black Hat conference next month the [URL="http://www.itpro.co.uk/619750/new-internet-explorer-flaw-revealed"]Microsoft browser is at risk[/URL] to not one serious hole but rather a set of minor vulnerabilities that can linked together to …

Does anybody know if the new release of IE 9 is compatible with the [URL="http://www.microsoftelearning.com"]E-Learning site[/URL]? I used the beta release of IE and I could not access any of my courses on E-Learning. I'm currently using Firefox because I had to revert to Internet Explorer 8 just to get into my courses. I'm basically trying to avoid updating only to have to uninstall because I really have to access those resources. If anyone can help, please, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Hello, About 2 weeks ago I got a pop up that appeared to be a Windows update, but upon completion, all I saw was one of those aggressive programs that says you have infections but there wasn't any when I ran my antivirus program. I ran AVG, Malwarebytes and Hijackthis but nothing came up. I ran the Malicious Software Removal Tool and it said it found 2 malicious items and deleted them. Everything seemed fine for a few days and then my browser started to slow down and take longer to load. I use Firefox, by the way, I hate …

Hi! I've been searching for a solution to this problem for almost a week now and I can't find anything. I'm building my first website in Dreamweaver and using a horizontal spry menu bar for the navigation. The bar shows up perfectly in Firefox (at the bottom and center of the template's header) but when I open Internet Explorer, it is anchored to the top right of page. This is my first time posting so any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! Hi, I'm using C++ without MFC nor ATL, to create a popup, opening from a DLL loaded in Internet Explorer as Browser Helper Object (all versions from IE7, from XP to Windows 7). Internet Explorer used to reign over the web browser client kingdom with a seemingly vice-like grip, but the latest statistics suggest that the Microsoft market share crown is slipping significantly. Although Chrome only has a 7.98 percent share according to one recent report, it has carved that out in a relatively small period of time. Firefox, on 22.96 percent continues to climb but Internet Explorer has slipped to 'just' 59.65 percent. OK, so that remains a pretty dominant position to be in, but when you consider that not so long ago Microsoft was looking at a browser market-share of 90 …

I wrote some jquery code for my websites navigation bar that displays a drop down menu by fading it in. It works in chrome, and firefox, but, like usual, not in Internet Explorer. I am using the fadeIn and fadeOut effects and everything seems in order. I even added the name tag because IE seems to like it for some reason. What happens, is IE shows the drop down, but it doesn't fade at all. The fade is two seconds, and it does go through the two seconds because it takes that long before it will dissapear after your mouse …

Hello Yesterday I downloaded this: [B][COLOR="Red"]Infected Executable File Removed[/COLOR].[/B] My Panda antivirus didn't see anything wrong with it, but it is some sort of spyware or trojan. Since I ran it last night, my IE opens up sometimes with an IQ test page '=) Today I ran a quick scan with Windows Defender and it found a Win32/Renos.MQ (more info here -> [url]http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Threat/Encyclopedia/Entry.aspx?name=TrojanDownloader:Win32/Renos.MQ&threatid=152583[/url]) It gave me the option to remove it, so I did. It took several minutes... And, how lovely, while it was doing it, my antivirus said "Virus neutralized!" and when I checked it, [B][COLOR="Red"]xxxxxxxx[/COLOR][/B] which was INSIDE …

Microsoft got some good news this week when new data showed they had gained market share on rivals Firefox and Chrome last month. It might very well be a temporary data glitch, especially when news came out today that [URL="http://www.networkworld.com/news/2010/070110-ibm-employees-use-firefox.html?source=NWWNLE_nlt_daily_pm_2010-07-01"]IBM was recommending that its 40,000 employees use Firefox[/URL] instead of Internet Explorer. For today, however, Microsoft was very happy for the change, even if it's not quite as great as the headlines (or Microsoft) would suggest. [B]A Closer Look at the Data[/B] According to data from a site called [URL="http://www.netmarketshare.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=1"]Net Marketshare[/URL], dating back to August 2009, IE has been steadily …

Basically this is what I have: [code] <div style="float:right; width:500px"> <table width="100%"> <tr> <td>Input Text:</td> <td><input name="textInput" type="text" value="<?=$phpVariable?>" style="width:100%" /></td> </tr> </table> </div> [/code] In every web browser besides IE what this does is make the width of the input field the full width of the column. However, in IE if the input value is longer than the width of the column the input field seems to then become 100% of the width of the value. Check out my attachments to see what I'm talking about. How do it fix this!? Thanks, David
