Using IE6: Fail

Exactly. Ie6 sucks, but for some its the only option.

No IE6 is awesome,its the page coders that blow.......

No reason to cut out IE6 when most still use it!!

Ie6 = standards fail

No reason to cut out IE6 when most still use it!!

No reason to cut out rotary telephones, when most still have them...
No reason to cut out 8-track tapes, when most still have them...
No reason to cut out VHS, when most still have them...

(There's a subtle pattern there. See if you can spot it.)

Umm, they're all analog?

apart from the fact that

a) rotary telephones suck, espcially for automated systems
b) 8 track tapes suck. Deteriorate over time and not easialy editable,
c) VHS = huge, low capacity, fail in quality

Exactly, so at some point providers stop supporting the old product that sucks in favor of the newer one which is better (or perhaps just sucks less, in the case of IE7) and those few who cling to the old product either make the switch or accept the narrowing applicability of that product.

So really, to address The Dude's dissatisfaction with technological progress:
Upgrade or quit whining and deal with the fact that you can't access some new stuff with the old piece of crap you insist on keeping.

IE5 and 6 will be supported by microsoft for years though.

IE5 and IE6 stop getting support in june of 2010.
Ie7 support ends just before in april which is odd.

At that point IE8 and Firefox should have the majority of the market (with IE8 shipping on the new Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, as well as being a critical update for all supported OSes at that time (xp pro, windows server 2003, 2008, and vista)

Microsoft may continue to support them for quite awhile, but I think content providers (developers) will drop IE6 more quickly due to the standards-compliance issues.

yeah

IE7 overtook Ie6 in % a few months ago now

Ie6 = standards fail

Ah i see buddy :)
