Hi all,

In the grand scheme of things I am relatively new to this game we call web development, and there is something I have been wondering...

One of the areas of particular interest to me is accessibility. One key part of web accessibilty is the consideration of users using screen readers - such as Jaws.

My question is this: I know that there are alternative softwares (although apparently not as "good" as Jaws), but why is Jaws in particular so expensive?

It strikes me that this is in fact NOT accessible to a large number of disabled users, who (demographically speaking) are less likely to have such an amount of disposable income?

Is there something really obvious I am missing, or what? I have spoken to other developers and a lot of them think I have a good point.

It seems to me like charging a hundred grand for a wheelchair!

Any replies would be greatly appreciated - even if they are to tell me how dumb i am! - provided they're relevant ofc! ;)
