I have a Compaq laptop. I was just using it and walked away only to come back and find it was off. All attempts to restart have failed. The battery is fine and it is pluged in to the wall. When you press the on button the battery light flashes red twice. It is possible there was a power surge however it didn't affect any of the other computers plugged in at the time.

Any ideas appreciated.

does it work after letting it cool?
Is it possible to run it without the battery inserted?
