So I'd really like to write an article about the inclusion of Sun's Java in the latest Ubuntu release, but I'm not exactly sure what that means for Java in Linux as a whole. Java has always been available as a package and is easy to install, but I think I remember hearing about licensing issues being the reason it couldn't be installed by default.

Could it also be trouble for competing JVMs in Linux? I know that I have to use Blackdown on my AMD64 because (last I checked) that was the only 64-bit VM.

Anyone know anything about this?

Maybe they(Sun) want to increase the number of developers using their software.

Who knows?
