I am in the process of splitting my site into around 240 sub-domains. The main homepage will have links to each. Does a search engine recognise links in a dynamically generated dropdown menu or will they have to be text based.

Turn off javascript, css, and cookies and then view your menu. Can you see all of the links? If so, so can the search engines. If not, then they can't either.
