Hello Friends,

I want suggestion from all you SEO gurus about web portal Optimization.

As we all know this is the time of portals or Big websites. So we all people have to prepare for optimizing of Portals and Web2.0 websites.

Can any one tell me point wise SEO Plan or Strategy about web portal Optimization? What are the main steps keep in mind during a web portal Optimization.

Thanx in advance.

A compact, practical checklist for optimizing large portals — expanding on the basics mentioned and keeping ’s caution about over-building in mind. Below are portal-specific actions and controls that matter when you move from single sites to thousands of indexed pages.

  1. Create an indexation matrix: list every content type (articles, category pages, user profiles, filtered views, search results) and decide index/noindex/canonical for each.
  2. Protect crawl budget: identify and stop crawler waste (duplicate URLs, heavy parameter permutations) using canonical tags, robots meta, and log analysis.
  3. Faceted navigation: avoid exposing combinatorial filter URLs unless they add unique value; for non-essential facets use POST/AJAX or canonicalize to the main listing.
  4. Pagination / infinite scroll: ensure each logical page has a stable, crawlable URL; for infinite scroll provide paginated fallbacks or History API pushState so bots can access content.
  5. Duplicate-content control: canonicalize programmatically, prefer 301s for permanent duplicates, and use hreflang for localized variants.
  6. JavaScript rendering: deliver critical content and meta tags server-side or use dynamic rendering for bots; always test with Google’s inspection tools.
  7. Structured data and discovery: use Article/Product/Breadcrumb and Organization schema where appropriate to improve indexing and SERP features.
  8. Performance and mobile: prioritize mobile-first layout, Core Web Vitals, fast TTFB and caching — slow pages kill indexation priority.
  9. Governance and templates: enforce title/meta templates, quality gates for autogenerated pages, and a cadence of crawl-log + Search Console audits.

Rollout: implement changes on a sample subset, measure coverage and organic behavior, then scale; never accidentally expose staging to indexing. For implementation and testing references, see Google’s guidance on JavaScript SEO and duplicate-URL consolidation: JavaScript SEO basics and Consolidate duplicate URLs.

SEO is no different no matter what the site is. There are the same basic principles for everything: Clear, concise navigation, write for the visitor and not the spider, lots of good inbound links, a good sitemap, and clean HTML code

This is your type of thinking, not "as we all know". I see no need to jump on some trendy SEO bandwagon ( in this case : building unneccesary monstrocities in an attempt to increase search engine rankings ).

I agree with pankaj that the current trend revolves around Web 2.0 sites, social networking, the blogosphere, portals, news mashups, news syndication with tagging, etc.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that they are directly related to the seo industry any more so than any other site (except to say that getting your stories syndicated across the blogosphere can help your backlinks). Good seo techniques can be applied to any website out there rather equally.
