I’m especially curious about practical strategies that have actually worked. With AI tools and LLMs answering more questions directly, what are some ways websites can get mentioned or cited in AI-generated answers, not just rank in normal search results?

If you want to get cited in AI search results, it’s not enough to just think in terms of keywords. The new standard is to be the "most parseable authority."
Here’s what’s actually working right now:
Prioritize Information Gain: The AI is aggregating information based on a summary of what experts agree on. To get cited by them, you need to provide new information that isn’t already part of their training set.
Direct-to-Answer Formatting: Structure your content so that each section starts with a clear, concise answer to a specific question. If a large language model can "clip" your sentence to answer a user’s question, then you’re more likely to get cited.
Entity-Based Schema: Use advanced Schema Markup (JSON-LD) to define what your content is actually about. This is what tells AI models the relationship between your brand and your topic.
Long-Tail Conversational Queries: People talk to AI models differently than they type into Google. So, focus on optimizing for full sentences instead of fragmented keywords.
The change is not that hard: Stop trying to "rank" on a given term, and start trying to answer that user’s specific problem better than anybody else.
We have optimised our content strategy and content structure. We begin with a short summary of the page/article, then write short paragraphs with proper headings, 1-3 relevant images with proper al text and name, add 3-5 frequently asked questions as well.
We also use Schema markup, and proper OpenGraph tags for each post or page.
