How are publishers able to earn money in this new world of AI? I've been thinking a lot about whether to block AI training bots recently, and I've finally pulled the trigger. I'm sure it's too late, as most training has already happened in 2023-2024, but better late than never, I suppose?

That word "publishers" as in the preparer of books, journals, music, or other works for sale.
So that word, I do not think it means what you think it means as there are no books, journals, music or other works for sale here.

Moving on. If we toss that word out and say "web master or web site owner" then my answer would be dependent on many facets.

  1. If I pay for bandwidth and the bots are taking my lunch money, block.
  2. If I think the bot will send people and money my way, allow.
    The list continues as you grow your list.

Publisher? "That word."

This is the digital marketing forum. Within the context of digital media and marketing, sites like DaniWeb are called publishers. Publishers are websites that publish digital content that, typically, gets consumed for free or for a monthly subscription (eg in the case of the New York Times) and historically has relied on advertising revenue.

I’m not confused. DaniWeb has been a digital publisher in the industry for my entire adult life.
