I have recently installed a new Benq DVD RW/R. My PC will now not boot up without removing all USB cables and does not close down properly. Can some one please give me some tips on what to do?

It is an internal drive which replaced a Sony unit.

The computer is running XP Pro (updated last year from W98) which gave a few problems with our ADSL modem as the USB ports at the rear are not too keen on XP (I have tried to find new drivers) the front ports have been fine.

The computer is 1 GHZ (athlon) and has a 30GB hard drive
